It is an old Dynatech strut bar. Dynatech quit making them years ago(I think Dynatech is out of business).

I bought it from another RL'er.

I had it anodized and powder coated so it is the only one like it in the world.

I got my exhaust and clutch out today. A bolt broke off in the clutch fork pin while trying to remove it, so I had to remove the bellhousing and pressure plate together



I thought 87+ cars had a slotted bellhousing so I wouldn't have to remove the speed/reference sensor bracket?


The clutch disk didn't look too bad, but I'm going to replace it anyways.

I took it out and introduced it to some new friends and gave it a proper workout.

Forman Motorworks(http://www.formanmotorworks.com) had an Ariel Atom demo day at Inde Motorsports Ranch in Wilcox AZ.

I got to take a ride in a supercharged Atom. WOW, that is fast. Nothing like beating up a 2008 GT2 on the track.

After lunch I rode two laps with Justin, one of Inde's professional driving instructors in my car while he taught me the lines. Then we did about 10 laps with me driving and him advising from the right seat, then he turned me loose. It was my first time running real laps on a real track in my own car. The closest I've come before was doing 2 parade laps at Laguna Seca at RSR IV

I did about 8 laps on the track by myself and one short trip off track by myself. I was watching my mirrors too much and overcooked a corner. I almost caught the slide and then it snapped back the other way. No damage but my pride.(the GT2 driver and a spec Boxster driver spun today too so I was in good company)

I need to stretch my fenders more before I do any more track days. The tires don't rub on the street but they do on the track.

Today I removed the splined shaft (not sure what it's real name is) and torque tube bearings. I got the shaft out by putting both feet on the transmission bellhousing and pulling. Super easy. The bearings were another story... I was hoping to use a giant piece of PVC pipe to pound them out like I saw in a DIY, but Home Depot didn't have anything big enough, so I had to go the tried and true threaded rod method



Hello bearings! I labeled each one and which way they go inside the tube.


Home Depot didn't have any giant 3 inch washers, so I used a drain cover with a socket between it and the nut. It didn't look to good at the end.


By the time I finished the nut had eroded into a funky cone shape. It carved a nice dent in my socket too



I need to clean this thing out before I reinstall the bearings.


Lucky for me the rubber things in the center of the bearing that the shaft rides on are in good enough shape for reuse. These bearings are definitely shot. Each one makes a nasty grinding noise when I spin it.

Yup. TT bearing replacement I rate worse than a clutch job or pulling a turbo. Worse than rod bearings too. its probably the most unpleasant job on the whole car, so good job! Have a beer

Find some rubber lubricant to reinstall the pucks. Also, an impact gun helps a LOT with the bearing extraction/installation.

It's not THAT bad. All it takes is patience, a ton of swearing, and some strong arms to spin the wrench for an hour.

I would if I could, but I won't be 21 until April so I can't buy beer just yet

I have an impact gun, but my compressor isn't high powered enough for continuous use of it. It's only good for short bursts of impact gun use. Plus it was getting late and I didn't want to **** off my neighbors.

The only thing that truly sucked about this job was doing it while it was 10 degrees outside. Everything else was easy as pie for a master mechanic like me

Replaced my fraying throttle cable. It took me longer to clean out snow/water from the floor of the car so I could stand on my head under the dash that it did to do the job. (working on cars in the winter sucks.)
Nice and smooth pedal travel with no frightening instances of sticky throttle.

Pulled the Blaupunkt San Francisco out of the dash and verified there is a connector available to run a line to my console storage box for an IPod that will also allow it to charge vs the front pin type aux input. Also installed the 5 disc stack storage unit into the lower cubby hole (like the ones in the later Porsches)

370 pages - interesting. FWIW, replaced the oil dipstick tube in my 968...
