I spent some quality time with a buffer and a laptop this weekend, and the results are impressive on both. The paint looks almost presentable now, and it is running MUCH, MUCH better. The tune still needs a little work, but the AFRs are now much more boost-friendly, but the low-throttle off-boost area needs improvement.

Today I finished installing my carpet kit. It definitely was not plug and play, but it's better than what I had. My car smells much better now too that the 26 year old moldy carpet is gone. Tomorrow I'll bolt down the seats and replace the carpet on the doors. All I have left is to recover my dash and wire up my amp/sub and my interior will be mostly done!

While troubleshooting what ended up being a tps issue, I did some "while I'm at it" maintenance type stuff. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter (which was super dirty). Cleaned the throttle body, and intake, and blew the fuel lines out to make sure they were ok.

Next item is fuel injectors... Looks like some dirty fuel is giving me some trouble. 3 injectors are making a nice "tick tick tick tick" noise while the car is running. One injectors is making more of a "thunk thunk thunk thunk" noise....sigh...

It was $799 for the top of the line German Silverknit stuff. It's super soft and looks really good. I'm going to need my seats/lower dash recovered eventually to match the carpet. I'd really like to find some nice script sport seats instead of wasting my money on having my crappy standard seats recovered, but sport seats seem impossible to find.

Started in the morning with rad already pulled on my new to me 944 that i havent really driven yet

Changed t belt and balance belt and thermostat, did a tuneup/oil change. Reinstalled radiator and filled the system slooooooooooowly the pita way. Drank beer. Everything runs good. I got done around 2am and very hungry lol.

Buy a pair of these pliers and grind down the tips a little bit so they fit in the snap ring holes. Easy as pie.

In January last year I bought a 968 clubsport shelf. Not only do the 968CS's have a rear seat delete but they can have this shelf too. I chose not to use it in favour of a home made custom board one as the CS one needed to be secured somehow so it could hold weight.


In about August, the seller of the CS shelf emailed me to say he found some brackets that should help. the shelf was in storage so I didn't get around to sorting it out until yesterday. the brackets matched but i only had 2 of the 4 wingnut bolts to fasten it. I stopped by a hardware store after work yesterday and picked up a packet of bolts to fit. The brackets go from the underside of the shelf to the outer lower seat belt mounting bolts.
It looks great and is strong. Only downside is I had to clean the interior of the car before I could take these photos!

Today I pulled my car out of the garage for the first time in about 3 weeks and took it for a long hard drive. It seems wayyyy faster now with the lightweight carpet, no sound deadening under the drivers feet or under the trunk carpet, and with 2/3 of the interior removed.

I also brought home a new buddy for it (2001 Jetta GLX Vr6). With this car as my DD I can finally focus on the 944 restoration again.

The porsche 924/944 interiors are actually quite lightweight.
I think it just sounds louder to you and you associate that with faster. Weigh what you took out and i think you'll find that its just a few kgs...those will not make any difference.

No offence but i find it silly to worsen your car by removing some of the sound insulation...either remove everything(might give you a 10hp equivalent gain) or leave it be.
For example, i removed the trunk insulation on my 83 924 and it sounded louder..but the insulation was only 4-5kg and all the other interior bits added to a maximum of 20kg....i've read somewhere that removing 50kg equivalates with 10hp.

Just got to clean up the edges for the seals and rebuild them now.

Spent most of today stripping out the steering column. Finally have it ready to go back in but waiting on a mate to help align it as I can't do two things at once! Can already feel the play gone through the new needle bearing
