Darryl, did you replace the needle bearing at the bottom of the steering shaft where it meets the intermediate shaft? Did you follow some directions? Mine went out and I have play in my wheel. Where did you get the bearing? Do you use a diy link? Thanks!

Also, those calipers look AMAZING! I like the gold.

I think it just sounds louder to you and you associate that with faster. Weigh what you took out and i think you'll find that its just a few kgs...those will not make any difference.

No offence but i find it silly to worsen your car by removing some of the sound insulation...either remove everything(might give you a 10hp equivalent gain) or leave it be.
For example, i removed the trunk insulation on my 83 924 and it sounded louder..but the insulation was only 4-5kg and all the other interior bits added to a maximum of 20kg....i've read somewhere that removing 50kg equivalates with 10hp.
I removed the insulation under the drivers feet because it was soaked with water and was all moldy and rotten. No way was I leaving that in there. The trunk insulation was glued to the hatch carpet and when I tried to pull it off to glue it to my new carpet it disintegrated, so I said **** it. I would have kept them if I could, but whatever. Removing those two pieces of insulation didn't seem to affect the noise level at all. My exhaust may have been a bit louder, but I don't care. My car sounds amazing and the sexy little pops from the exhaust when I change gears/let off the throttle are easier to hear now.

Maybe it was all in my head that the car seemed faster with those two pieces removed, but either way I'm happy and that's all that matters.

Yea I did, I just searched on google and tried to find as much info along the way.
I found this guide the most helpful:
http://944lux.blogspot.co.uk/2010/09...nightmare.html

My bearing was actually seized on to the column and was spinning in the housing, there was a lot of play in it!

I tried to purchase one from Porsche over here but they are discontinued, luckily a brand new one came up on a forum for £40 for me. I couldn't find the bearing anywhere else though, sorry.

Thanks! I'm really happy with them

EDIT: Make sure you know what you're in for, it's probably the worst job I've done on a car yet.

Thanks for the heads up. I've heard it's an awful job....I've done everything else that's hard on the car, why not this? Lol

Did a timing belt and balance belt tension adjustment as I installed them new 3 weeks back. Installed new power steering and alternator belts, replaced the door jam switches.

Installed a new DME temp sensor, replaced a couple of vacuum lines, and installed my new Fabspeed exhaust.

Drives like a raped ape, but there are still rattles that I can't get rid of.

Oh, noticed some antifreeze coming from the timing covers. Its belt and engine reseal season this spring!

Today I tried out my lift for the first time and so far it's working well! Now that the lift project is done I can begin tearing into my car to replace the transmission, clutch, torque tube bearings, engine mounts, solve my power steering leak, upgrade the suspension, and take care of whatever other surprises I'm bound to find along the way.

While I had the car up in the air I noticed a gap between the hatch and the body of the car big enough to see the interior through. Is my seal just shrunk, or is the hatch frame bent?

Just looked up that MaxJax online. Should we be offended that 2 out of 3 cars pictured on the lift are Porsches?

I would be.

The main problem with this lift is at the lowest lock height it's too high for my jack to reach the transmission Solution? Stack up a **** ton of bricks until it reaches! The only problem with that was the transmission hit the spare tire well when I tried rolling it backwards I had to lift it off the jack and get my clothes and arms all nice and greasy.

Its been a busy Jan so far.
New TPS, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, powersteering filter and hose, injectors have been professionally cleaned and new seals installed, and now it has new oil cooler seals to stop all the oil leaking out. Oh and I replaced all of the sway bar bushings after the power steering leak wrecked the sway bar bushing. On a sort of comical note, my last bill for work done totaled $944.58 I laughed about the 944 part....then I cried a little bit.
Runs great though!
