Matt, that Alfa would be great. $1,400 is nothing. Has WOF and Rego. How bad could it be? Tyres look good. 143bhp. 0 to 60 in 9.8 seconds. Top speed 210km/hr.

Yeah I kind of imagined something like an E30 or an Alfa or something that has a bit of character would be a laugh.

150horses race-bred horses! Would translate to something fairly insipid with the weight of that thing, Would be an interesting project car to experiment with how much 'adding lightness' helps track times. Strip the interior and someone must have a spare race seat?

Have to set a common time first...unless the heavier units like me get to go after the lightening

Ha, so that's what you had in mind. Well if there is $400 left over that could help...

Anyone live on the shore that can see the Alfa during the week?

I'm in Welly so couldn't see it until Saturday.

Or if anyone's got a spare crate LSX lying around: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/wrec...-745098028.htm

Shape's vaguely familiar...

While not being in the race group, I could have a look for you if wanted

Perfect Phil. I don't think anyone expects much more than a car that goes at this price point.

I have a tow car, but can't stomach having to hire a trailer every time I want to go to the track. Going to a hire center on a Thursday, picking up a trailer and parking on the street over night or at a hire place where the race car is stored and then returning on a Monday is just beyond me at the mo.........

Not sure I am ever going to get beyond 'window shopping' due to the issues above.........

I am more swinging towards a 997.1 GT3 that drives to the track on road tires and does 1.13's on a play day or a PCNZ day. No I can't race it - but that's life.........

I really like the idea of walking to the garage on a Sunday morning and driving to the track..............

I am in moan moan mode at the mo............

John - if you are referring to Kev's car - first in is first served...........

Still means we can prove we spent only 2K to buy it. Could open us up to some interesting ricer rockets for beer and skittles money...
That has been used before. As long as it's an approved car your good to go.

@Paul - yes, albeit still focussed on a road legal car.

@ All RSG beater contributors. I suspect there will be more than one of these cars. I like the simplicity of Matts Alfa idea. With WOF and Rego for $1,400 we can't go too far wrong. If it breaks or we refine the concept we can sell and go to the mark 2 version.

MRS's are great little cars, so very light. It's always been one of the car world's great shames they gave that car the 1ZZ engine instead of the 2ZZ from the Celica with much more power. The only downside of them is that as a convertible you would need a cage installed before tracks will let you on. Same problem for MX5s are they are great track cars too and easy to chuck a turbo on when you need more power.

Here is a 20 valve Levin that could be had for $2k (something about the ad tells me he'd be negotiable ), downside is it's in Invercargill!

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-742130650.htm

Also an auto Integra for $2k that can be converted to manual within the rules:
http://nzhondas.com/vehicle-exchange...ra-sir-2k.html

And this is quite an interesting one, a Torneo with an F20B engine. The car is in truly terrible condition but the F20B is a 200hp engine. This would be the most powerful car eligible for the 2k Cup (although you'd have to check the eligibility because it is 1 year outside the automatic inclusion dates. These cars are quite quick!

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-742226810.htm

You will probably start to notice that there are a few good cars out there but it is quite tricky to pick the perfect one, I am terrible at it and it's one of the reasons have never bought my own one!
