There's the $24,500 car I missed out on by 2 hours. A small mark up. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-744359432.htm

I'd definitely be keen to be in on this 2K Cup car, although I probably shouldn't point this out being last in but there may be too many people to get any decent driving in?
I have been doing a fair bit of research towards entering my own car in this so can offer some advice.
1. Most of the competitive cars have spent at least another $2k on top of purchase price. Full fluid change, pads, tyres etc. Worth bearing in mind that a $2k car without any money spent on it will probably break something in about 10 laps.
2. If you want to win the 2L class you will need either a B18c Honda Integra or a 20 valve Levin (it's 1600 but has so much power it's bumped to the 2L class). They are the cars that put in much faster laps than anything else with MR2s, Currens and Celicas (the 3SGE powered cars) coming in 3rd. 1600 was much less competitive last season but could be more so this time around, any Gen 1 B16a powered car you can find for 2k will win that if driven well.
If you don't mind about coming first then you can get a bit more creative. I have been hunting for a manual E36 320i BMW for this. It's power to weight ratio is well down on the top cars but it's RWD and that's almost unique to the class apart from the MX5s which are too gutless and require a cage.
Speaking of cages, that MR2 linked would need one too due to being targa top so you need to find a hardtop one if you want to avoid that.

I don't think the number of drivers will be a problem. I'm thinking a meritocracy where we all get to sort ourselves out in the pecking order and the two or three fastest drivers earn the right to race. The rest of us get to improve our driving at a very modest cost.

Buy an average imported example with little history cheap on a public forum such as TM or Turners Auctions stolen & recovered. Then add 3 photos including one stolen from the web of a different car and ask 50% more for it (and clearly more than the local market has been prepared to pay). Better still market it on the same public forum you bought if from two weeks later.....!!!!!!
Everyone tis a amateur car dealer isnt it!?!*

Here's a Twin cam that could be raced in the Taxi Cup. Look for black cam cover with VTEC on it. Most aren't painted like this one.

There was a one hour race at the end of the last season. The two fastest RSG Stig's could drive in that. Might foster some friendly competition for the seats if they have one this season.

That Levin is the older shape AE101 which are a good model for the 1600 class, their engines are just on the power limit, however that specific one is a GTZ so supercharged and therefore not eligible.
I may be able to source a B18c Integra that raced a couple of time in the series so I can ask around. I think the plan first would be to pick the model everyone wants then find the right car. To me the decision is as follows:
Do you want to win?
Yes?
2L class?
B18c Integra or 20 Valve Levin
Yes but 1600 class:
Da6 b16a Integra or 16 valve Levin
I don't have to win, I want something fun:
RWD = BMW 320i, either E30 or E36 but E36 is easier to find and source parts or MX5 with cage
MR = MR2
FWD = Something French like a 306 GTI

Rough Integra. Looks like it's got the right motor though.

No but have run the 235/45 option on the 944 though the diff front to rear is only about 3.5% so probably still OK.
