for a small amount of money use a racetech shell from the link above you can then get them to custom fit the foam padding to fit you and then put your own leather over it all. The basic shell only $500+
No allergy and not worth the effort to make your own at that price. All done for $2.5-3k I bet
Now we're talking. That's exactly what I had planned to produce. Good spotting.

I also had a mare of a time finding someone who could reproduce "classic grey" leather and must have collected samples form at least 3-4 suppliers. The Porsche tannery no longer makes the leather and they were using a different process and leather (very fine grain) back in the early 90s. Later reproductions are on a coarser grain leather which does not gather or dimple like the original hide.

One thing I can guarantee form my own experience is that you will become an expert in all things upholstery and leather by the time you have finished. Its like LSDs and gearboxes. Ask me a question about gear sets for the G50 6 speed or LSD for 993 now and Ill probably have a pretty good stab at the answer, two weeks ago not so much....LOL!
You got that right. Don't know about you guys but most of the fun for me is the dreaming, solving the problems and the doing. When it's all done it's a bit like "so what's the next project then?"
Like some of you younger chaps loving the crumpet chase aye?

Macca,

Whats the best 993 LSD solution and what's it going to cost me?

Why would you not use a Quaife? What are the con's of this option?

P.s. mat's you implied you had a solution here??

Cheers

Dave you hit the nail on the head. I love the research and planning, talking with other, hunting the items down, buying them and figuring how to land them lowest cost. Been doing it for years on the 993 and its a great way for someone like me who can be there to actually do the work to immerse himself in the project and really own it. I get as much pleasure out of this as seeing the final creation and giving it a spanking the back to the drawing board for some more...

In terms of real world budget=

Motorsport 4 plate (2 per side) 40/65 (accel/decel) Part number: 950 332 083 38

I believe talking to Mark it runs around $2300 USD. The part number he gave you was for the stock 22/40 2 plate POS which is what alerted me to the fact I may have the wrong unit and once Dean stripped it down was found to be true.

In terms of install time its a gearbox out job. Factor 20 hours but best ask your Stuart.

Lifespan is around 4-5 years with the track driving you do (assumes 12-18 track days a year). The Porsche Motorsport LSD can be rebuilt with Guards internals for around $1000 USD in parts when time comes for refresh.

If you simply want the best the go straight for Guards Transmission Club series or GT2 series Chrome Moly custom cased 40/60 four plate with adjustable billet ramps. Matt at GT can supply your one of these off the shelf for around $3500 USD plus shipping. GT internals are the most bullet proof and will last the life of the transmission (i.e. until it need a rebuild) with your type of usage. The internals from this unit are what I have mentioned above (you already have the ramps in there so dont need the billet adjustable ones from the GT diff - I did as my ramps were all wring in the original LSD housing).

For both solutions you will need to order the bolts that hold the main driver gear on the diff (one use only - factor around $60 USD the set). You will also need to order the him set to lash up the LSD as you have an open diff and the worm shaft length will need shimming. Stuart can advise once its apart.

Usually the job to put an LSD in a non LSD car will take a few weeks as shims will need ordering from Australia or Germany.

Having an LSD in your car will guarantee at least 1s a lap at HD. I notice the lack of mine working immediately on SITT. Less under-steer and slower out of the bumpy corners.

Quaife is what they recommend in NZ. I think its because Kiwi racers are tight ***** or simply the mechanics community here just install what everyone else is. They provide lock up on acceleration only. They are torque sensing/VC not mechanical clutch and gear type. They are more durable than the plate clutch type but provide no stability under braking. Talk to any serious track guys in Europe, UK or USA and they will all tell you that the GT/Porsche Motorsports units are the only ones you want.

When you are in touch with Mark find out if a classic grey carpet set is available from the factory. If not get a USD price and ill work out a deal.

For Dave Harcourt London are a specialist leather company and I have worked with them on other non car projects. The owner, Simon is a very talented and enthusiastic man who has never done a complete re trim. I can tell you, it's looking like he's done them all his life! Brilliant work. The colour is tan (with an original Porsche Ivory exterior) using natural vegetable tanned leather and bull leather for some 'below the knee' areas. The seats are inspired by gentleman's driving gloves...

That is not my goal.

My goal is to stop the rear of the car from snapping out. It breaks traction very easily and is annoying on the road (or the track).

After the PCNZ sprints the 993 will not likely see the track again, so you will always be 1 up

Bought this Chesterfield 23 years ago. Simon G asked if I still had it. As he remembered the leather. Fashions come and go but quality is never outdated.
