How do you value something like this? It will cost six futures to fix and will be impossible to sell once fixed.

Would make a good starting point for a Targa or track car maybe??

Motorsport Services. There are none listed right now, but they've usually got the Solo and mounts listed on TradeMe (note that they're selling the mounts separately, so factor the additional cost in!): http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Lis...member=2344300

Personally, I do my best not to infringe on others’ enjoyment of the day but here’s my perspective as a newbie for what it’s worth. Run 1:30 laps in the first lot out and you will have a 1:16 lapper up your butt in the third lap. Run 1:25 and it will happen a lap or so later. As Paul pointed out on the day, decide to go last and it will happen even quicker. In other words, I go out knowing I won't get clear laps.

I do my best to let people past, however more and more it’s not one that goes through but a couple or more. On Saturday, it happened to me on turns 8, 10 and up the main straight. By the time I was sure it was clear, my line and rhythm were shot, plus some of those with similar pace had snuck past. I know we say hold the line and speed, but I don’t want to be T-boned on a hairpin, run wide on the sweeper or have someone risk crossing the pit lane line to get past me on the straight.

We all have different experience levels, pocket depths, goals and personalities. Let’s see if we can find a more workable departure sequence. It would also be great to have a RSG leader board. I’m happy to share my AIM Solo to help timing.

As for the arms race, it’s mighty tempting to chip the 996TT, put track tyres on it and turn sub 1:20 sooner than I could in the 964, but that’s not my goal. I need to improve my cornering technique not my straight line speed.

I think Peter M may have got the last one. His website says out of stock. As stated before, I'm happy to share on some sessions during the day. I don't need it on every single session to work out how I'm doing.

Chris got down to 1.17's, and his 996TT still wasn't totally sorted.........(big sniff)......... track cocaine.........

Default Chris and 996 Turbo times at Hampton Downs

It was first time out in the car and with road tyres and brakes, so happy with the first outing, but more to come. It is my daily drive car though, so won't be getting thrashed like the 944!
More to come allright. Now you're running down into the 1.17s, please retract the above statement and tell me you were wringing its neck and not just tootling around drinking a milkshake or something!

Were your Direzzas the 03G R-comps or just ZIIs? Matt's GT3 was walking away from me in the corners with his R-comps so thought I might have to give them a go too.

Mine is a daily driver too so I'm not willing to compromise much street/top speed performance to the track. So much is a trade-off. Even just bigger brake ducts might lose the car a few kph up top I reckon since they're essentially blocking and redirecting airflow, though I guess I'll need them with R-comps or longer track sessions.

Best Hampton time for my stock 996TT Tip (factory K16 turbos, unmodded bar RS19/29 Pagids, Sumitomo HTRZIII 300 treadwear street tyres) was a 1:18.54 at the last PCNZ sprints, but beyond double apexing turn 10 next time for another half second or so, I think I'd need to make a few car adjustments to even it up more with the GT3s and GTRs out there.

Are you likely to run in the next PCNZ sprints? Be good to have another 996T out there for company...

John. Apologies if I am the culprit here, or one of the culprits. The competitive side certainly comes out as the speed climbs and some times the perspective on what is close could be lost at our RSG days when compared to racing! If I do it, please come and let me know, its not intentional and I will definitely be more careful.

I know Steve put together rules for Prestigio which included passing protocol, we should probably go through those as a group to ensure we all have an agreed expectation and understanding around what is safe passing.

To put it in context I got in to the 1:17's once with a 1:17.85, but happy with that and I was pushing it, although feel I could have potentially got down in to the 1:16's if I was braver under braking and through the corners. Given it is my road car though I probably won't chase that extra second as I know that's when things start to break!

Happy to look at the PCNZ Bent Sprints, that would be fun .

And yes, I was on the 03G R's.

Paul is brave/crazy.
Thanks for the information! Sounds like a lot of fun but unless the 986 doesn't sell and I use it I can't really risk the newer 987 with no insurance. Good on you Paul. Nothing beats a good hussle around the track :-)

Chris, I'm a bit hazy on it but I think it might have been you and George in turn 8 at one stage. I saw one car and wasn't fazed, then saw a second car on the same line, missed my turn point and stalled short of the kitty litter. Not a biggie, just mindful that I was unsure what lines are when racing so went wide to avoid both cars. It was the same corner that I came close to collecting Dave in the wet so am more careful there.

Maybe we could run a session with passengers in the roll caged cars and reduce the numbers on the track...hint Other than that I think we could run a smarter start sequence. It's pretty haphazard right now and 5 second intervals is just spreading us around too much, especially if numbers increase. I won't put them in the order of speed but to me there are clearly three groups. 1.16 to 1.21, 1.22 to 1.26 and 1.26 +. Even if just the five or so fastest cars were more bunched up it would help.

I put 650km in with the 987 S today on a nice long business trip up to Omapere via SH16, Maungakahia Valley, Kaikohe and back through the Wapoua Forest, Dargaville, Maungaroto then SH1 home. Also was the first real trip with the new Escort 9500i radar detector. There were a few cops out and a couple of very good speed traps which I cruised through at <100k. Also was surprised how many plain cars with radar I passed... About 3x. Car handled nicely.
