John. That's a really sensible approach. The straight is more indicative of the power of the car than the laptime (which is the driver).
Im hoping the drop in weight of around 130kg over last time (passenger, some reduction in Aug at CCS, tool kit & pump), the slight improvements in suspension (monoballs, camber plates, news settings, RS upright & tie rods and a few other items) and the R compound tyres (hankook 221) will get me up around 198-200kmph on that straight and an improvements of 3-4's in best lap time (1.18-19s) next time Im out at HD. If I had more time at HD Id then start shaving time through getting better at driving and setting up the car (maybe another 2.0+s there).
Im guessing my next session at HD will be my second ever and last for maybe 6+ months, so I will need to make the most of it. After that its NITT, Europe, SITT but hope to get an HD day in again maybe earlier in March 2014. I will have to start all over again by then LOL!
The car eventually will be the limiting factor once the driver has run out of talent. For a fairly stock 964C4 with its extra weight I would say that is 1.20, for a 964C2 like Davids maybe 1.18, for a 993 like mine perhaps 1.15-1.16. For Matt with his Gt3 maybe 1.14-1.15. Getting time out below 1.18 will be incrementally more difficult and the differing cars get stacked alot closer. Most of us may never achieve the full potential of our cars as detailed above but its true if we moved to say a 997.3 GT3 our times would probably drop considerably again. I suspect a well driven 3.8 GT3/RS should be good for 1.12 no problem.

Trying to make essentially a road car platform into a fit for purpose track car is as you say an expensive solution.....as I say, if I were doing it again it would be 996 GT3, a few modest upgrades (known weaknesses) and then just enjoy it....

Yesterday Robert told me he's sold his 996 GT3 then later talking to Nigel (I think his name is Nigel... owns a grey 986 S) he said he'd bought one.... The one and same. Small world.

I certainly hope so. The ducktail is taking longer than expected. Tail from Rennspd, Grille from Design 911 and fixtures yet to come from Pelican (held up by a special order billet badge from JMH). I will post the story on the 964 forum when it's all fitted. The cost for the tail itself was relatively modest, however the rest adds up. I don't think I'll see any other Kiwi 964s with one on. I suspect the same with the Fuchs, although Dave appears to be developing an itch.
Dave, one point I forgot to mention yesterday, when I saw Dean a few weeks ago, he mentioned that Kevin's (cup car) wheels have developed cracks. Something to think about re used vs new wheels. At least with new you won't be wondering while loading them up in the sweeper on R tyres.

Thanks Phil. Actually I'm getting SRF put in the TT and pads checked this week. It will likely be at HD on Saturday. I'm looking at keeping the C4 for a long time so no hurry while I iron out the last few things. I am also swayed by seeing the TT s on Saturday, where they were mixing it up with GT3s.
