Any Rennlisters from New Zealand?
WAAAAY too much. Luke paid less for it 16 months ago!
I spoke about the car with Stefan and Dean. Gearbox casing (confirmed damaged) would mean a complete new box. You could pick up a rough used one for 6K but would need t rebuild it while in there for $5-6K to ensure its fresh. You could part out some of the gearsets from the original box and pull in maybe 3-4K. Rear subframe is a bear. Even a old used one will be over 2K. New Rear drive shaft maybe $1200. No idea on condition of hubs, calipers, bearings. Assume best to replace some while in there.
Rear quarter panel is tricky. New panel is $$$ but lots of labour to get it right. Stefan cringed at that one. Rear bumper skin is $2500+GST plus paint and then you may need to do some work on rear chassis rail. All I talked t were concerned that getting the rear mounting points back t factory would mean having it on the Cellette - if they are out the car will never drive true.
We havent even mentioned the front damaged or the unknown let alone the paint and labour.
Put it this way. If you bought it to have someone else do the work even sourcing the parts yourself from offshore I doubt it would we you much under 100K finished. It would still be a 175K engine.
If you did all the work yourself aka John M style (you would still need specialist help for chassis alignment, panel and paint etc) then it could owe you 85K.
Actually makes the 100K paid for Pauls ex 993 seem a deal.
Sign the market has now entered silly territory. Im sure there will be a correction in the future. Its musical chairs here in s just make sure you have your bum near a seat when the needle is lifted from the vinyl?

You would assume most decent air cooled cars sit with owners who can afford to keep them.

Human behavior is interesting with assets.
Many of the guys in their 20's or 30's on here would have to be renting or financial 'rock stars' to be debt free.
When times are tough, your job or hours are cut - they are just lumps of cash sitting in the driveway.
In 2008 and 2009 Turners had a few exotic car auctions to clear repossessed cars (for then defunct finance companies).
$105k? That's impressive. 3 X 356 owners I know now with 993. Must be the shape?
OCD doing the chips. This time I supplied the paint and instructions on how to apply it. I'm not expecting a miracle as there is only one guy Dale who works for Stefan that is an artist in this regard (overfill, let it set 30 mins, add lubricant, razor blade the top off of it then wet sand and polish). Problem is that's 30 mins labour for a largish chip and not cost bare able. He did a significant paint cut (through to bare metal) on the fender panel of my 993 on the fold into the Frunk recess in 2005 that is outstanding - happy to show anyone interested plus a large deep paint scab caused by rock on leading edge of "pillar box" leading edge of front scuttle panel below window screen in 2008 which is undetectable. That latter one recited three layers of paint first and took 1 hour. Back when I actually gave a **** of course....

Not suitable for ball joints on suspension arms, but fine for sway bars.
I have one on my desk as we speak.
I have used the RBL16 on industrial gearboxes handling a 150kg load while oscillating +/-5 degrees at 50 cycles/minute, 24/7/365 - they last about 10 years without maintenance...
...that's 262,800,000 cycles...
Cheers,
Mike
Macca. Yes the nano-sealants like Quartz and opti-coat have come a long way the last couple of years. I met Stephan and had a quote for some work in the frunk. $2k for a little surface rust and straightening and refinishing the frunk floor. Obviously a perfectionist but unfortunately a bit rich an unnecessary I thought. I should have pressed for a quote for just the surface rust repair so I blame myself and have no ill feeling toward Haslers. I have an alternative which will proceed with post festival.
Did you ever find some alternative storage space for your cars? I remember last year you were in need of a change. My brother in law has a couple of cars he needs to find more permanent storage for and obviously the economies of scale encourage some form of share arrangement

It gets to the point when people say "enough". I ain't paying $175k for that 911T hotrod, $200k plus for a 993 C4S, $120k for a 993, $89k for an SC etc. I think I'll wait until the correction happens because there is nothing more certain. Next recession will do it. Those who are $1.5m up on an RS have trouble coming. Please refer to the classic car crash in 1989. Not only the classics but this was when new 930 Turbo's were fetching way over list (991 GT3 RS is doing same now) Do the punters paying over the odds think that there won't ever be a 992 GT3 RS?
Just got a text from a 964 owner wondering how best to market his new Recaro seats and bases X 2. No sliders or bolts. Looking for $3,500. Fabric not leather. Thought I'd put it here and FB. No affiliation yada yada.
If anyone has one of the older affected Pole Positions, contact Recaro as I believe they are swapping them out for the new ones.

Please dont get me started. Ill rant only once on this.
These are just old cars. Nothing more nothing less. the 89 global classic car crash and the early 90s Asia crash induced burst (which affected car prices globally as Japanense collectors hocked off their huge collections - remember this was the second richest nation on the planet with a very very healthy car collecting scene) are all but forgotten today. Like property and stocks just look back to history for a sign of the future. In Europe/US its cheap money and in NZ is the immigration fueled property boom cycle.
The silliness in the Porsche new car market is just the latest sign its cming unhinged. in Europe a 2 year old GT3 sells for 20% over its original list, a brand new 991 GT3RS is 40%+ over list and a new GT4 is 20% over list. Same applies UK & USA.
Seriously. What kind of person pays 100K over retail for a GT3/RS etc when they are still rolling out the factory door, guys around them are getting them at list price and they could have ordered them at list price a few months earlier if they had have pulled their finger out their bum?
At the end of the day these are just old cars that cost money to insure, maintain and own. For a classic no longer made with a burgeoning global population getting on average wealthier I accept that some appreciation over time is expected. But the new car thing just doesnt make any sense to me...
On the plus side I may get much more tie out of my GT3 before I have to honour my promise to sell it before it dips below the 200K it cost me!
So my 993 is more valuable than yesterday and my GT3 looks like it could be a profit play to export to the UK end of 2016 for some $$$.
And yet I have been consistent in my view that this market isnt healthy for enthusiasts and is reaching bubble crescendo. Mostly what I hear from other owners is drum banging. IMO they are too short sighted to see that the current trend is n good for us long time P-car enthusiasts. maybe I should just smoke from the same pipe as the majority and start stoking the fires of speculation. Probably make more friends that way aye!
Quite funny though that you should lament the situation, as I think the NZ fires may have been lit (or at least well stoked) when a certain 993 hit TradeMe at what was probably a near record price.

Yikes 50k, well that certainly went for a lot more than I thought. Gave it a good crack but wasn't to be. Even had a NOS 1/4 lined up if it had worked out but that car sold for wayyyy too much with those km's.
Very very easy repair though but there will be others, makes the last 993 tipo sold at Manheim look like a bargain at 11.5K

A guy on the 944 board has just developed these solid state DME relays. Thought they could be of interest to you guys as they are the same on 964 and 993's iirc.
