so here is a good value deal for xmas. perfect for SITT. Sparco helmet bag, fits a hans device in too but the real feature is the USB powered fan in the bottom of it to dry out the helmet after a days use.

I'm liking that a lot. Where did you get it? Perfect for driving home at end of trackday.

Re gearbox question from Paul, the final gearbox parts list was:
2nd, 3rd and 4th synchros $200 each
3rd gear set $1,400 but more likely now to cost $2,000
4th gear dog $400
3/4 gear guide sleeve $2,000 (I now have an excellent quality used one from cogs cogs for $800)
Lateral and longitudinal clutch packs $3,200
Gasket set $250
Differential bolts $400
1 gallon Swepco 201 oil $220
Labour was 35 hours, of which ~ 20 related to the C4 specific parts and an issue with a skewed 4th gear dog that required re-disassembly. You could add 10 hours to the labour if the shop removed and refitted the engine and box.
Ways to keep the cost down - savings in brackets:
Remove and refit your own gearbox ($1,100)
Only replace dog gears not the full gear set ($1,500)
Buy an excellent quality used guide sleeve from me ($1,200)
Have a C2 box or C4 box with Valeo disks ($5,000)
If say Doug was to do Lola with a view to the most economical option he would remove his own engine and box, and go as follows:
3 synchros $600
3rd gear dog $400
Used 3/4 guide sleeve $800
Gasket set $250
1 gallon Swepco 201 $220
Labour - say 15 hours
All up he could possibly scrape through at circa $4,000.
I do have a tendency to become a zealot after spending money, but discount that a bit and you still have a situation that all active 964 owners will need to look at. If you think that you can shift around this problem you are likely WRONG. You're still allowing cheap parts (synchros) to damage/wear expensive parts.

911 T dashboard restoration is partly concluded.
45 years of grunge cleaned off the brightwork.
Basketweave replaced with leather.

I'm going to have to practise hitting the stopwatch on the start finish line at HD whilst preparing to take turn 1 at speed.

You seriously have to ask yourself are we using the right brand/product to circulate the track at 1.20?
$11,000++ for your gear box work and you did the lift + install with your own equipment and labour. Call it $12,500 then for most of us...
The labour hours for that box/diff was similar to rebuilding your engine. I remember this stood out t me when I got my bill too.
Frankly its madness.
Even the manual C2 964/993 is getting borderline IMO. Its a 6K job whatever way you look at it and frankly paying $1000 to have the engine dropped, gearbox split and remounted and installed is one of the best value parts of the job IM and not worthy of the effort and tools required when a single gear set can cost $2000+. Unless you are John and you enjoy this kind of thing.
John has my invoice and it does include labour and small parts for a Diff rebuild and install like John but for C2 (42 hours all in) but I think if you break that out you are looking at around at $5900 for the box labor an parts (all sourced from CCS to make the job quicker and eliminate the issue of ordering wring parts). That includes removing and reinstalling gearbox from car (approx 10 hours). At the time I could have saved $1100 on the gearbox parts ordering them from FDM but wanted the job wrapped up quick (bx was open 3 weeks). Today with exchange rate as it stands youd need to order your own parts from FDM to get the bill to $6000. I did have the reverse lock out mechanism strengthened in that cost.
My box was not as damaged as Johns.
Doug would be up for $6000 if he did the same as me and had shop do all work. theres always more than you think.
My clutch packs and labour to pack and install and shim etc was $3800 including parts so my all up job was $9700 including box drop/install. S maybe $3K less comparatively.
Its madness really. As bubba has always said if you are going run these old cars hard at the track 10-12 time a year for 4-5 years you will certainly be up for a top end and a gearbox in your tenure at minimum so budget $25-30K about what you would pay to buy a Lotus S1 Elise and do similar if not better times at the track (and running costs are very low).
A real eye opener....

Probably just a crap photo. I'm not sure about the maxed out on steroids look. I appreciate it but way more a fan of the 'sleeper' look that you've gone for.
Cheers Graeme - good score.

Due t recent cancellation one spot left for RSG "Arrive & Drive" day 11 Jan. We have the track booked for 4 hours in the afternoon. "Open Pitlane" which is a great opportunity to go out and do as many laps as you like at your own pace, come in whenever you want. Prir experience with this format suggests that after the first 30 mins the track rarely has more than 8-10 punters out there any one time. Prestigio cover etc Limited to 25 attendees and cost is approx $250. If you want to get some track time in before festival this is also a good opportunity to practice, run in new pads/tyres/modifications or get your set up sorted...

Will be a good day and I reckon we could easily add a few to the waitlist with a message around to the RSG list. It has been at Max 25 for the last few months so suspect many had given up on it - plus we have a few newer members. See if the spot gets filled this weekend and if not I'll shoot a message out.
Haha - thought you of all people would approve. Just from the Random Picture thread in Rennlist off Topic https://rennlist.com/forums/off-topi...read-1879.html
Usually some good stuff there every day. Don't know what the original source is though.
