Dave took the actual part, did a whole lot of measurements, added his design expertise (reducing the number of tool changes required for different diameters etc) put it in Solidworks then prototyped in low resolution. I'm entranced by the process as the prototype is quite solid i.e. It could be used as is for non structural parts.

When we are happy with the design, then the program data will be sent to a CNC shop that will make it out of billet aluminum and I will fit it to Herman.

Discounting Dave's time in creating the master (totally his IP) the cost of manufacture is likely 50% of the Rennline alternatives which is one advantage. The other is the customisation possible. Anodize, powdercoat, laser etch.

Most likely cost due to local shop rates, no freight, US dollar and duty. They Have a fairly simple job of compressing the 3 gaskets to the head and receiving the three plug caps. The aftermarket ones available are quite different to the original cast Mag versions in the interests of just simple machining. I've not seen another CNC'd billet one in the flesh but doing a NZ version is just a follow your nose type of job - not much special in them. Trade off will be lightness but enough integrity to stay straight and last the distance. Good thing about aluminium is the inherent durability and very good surface finishes available, including perhaps the best which is 25-30 micron anodising in a few colours. Not sure yet but 933 / 964 have the same part number?

Thanks David. 993 part number lower 993.105.115.05 & upper 993.105.116.07

Looks like they are quite different. The 993 had improved design of heads, cover and gaskets to reduce oil leakage. PET shows a single gasket.

Happy to be proved wrong.

FD cheaper still as he will send 1 at time as a declared value under $400, so no GST or import processing costs...........

For the "cleaning guru's" - what is the best product for leaning a linen leather interior that has a few years of grim build-up??

Cheers

Depends how bad, but without doubt for older/well used leather Leatherique Rejuvinator followed by Leatherique Pristine Clean. Gameover

Instructions must be followed. Best if seats removed from vehicle.

I'd defer to you there, I've done no research at all.
