Stone me, but I'd go Fazza. Can you imagine having a 458 in your garage and firing it up for a Sunday run? There was once a few years ago now when a business colleague asked my opinion on the best sports car to get and I said a 911 of course. He let me have it for a weekend for a run along the great ocean road and it was then that I wished I'd said Ferrari. (996.2 v F360?)

Sweet - enjoyed seeing a 914 or two out and about at the last PCNZ Christmas. They are reportedly weapons at grass gymkhanas and some track modded 6s hold their own stateside too.

Need to get Herman sorted quickly because this has got me thinking about taking on some windy roads with full noise

Would love to see a Wevo style shifter in the 964 John. Perhaps a rear RS carpet set and Heigo half cage. Would set the project off very nicely with the gearbox rebuild and the sorted out panel work although it may tip you into 6 figures on the 64 I think it would all be worth it. The 993 acquitted itself very well on the Targa, didn't miss a beat and sounded glorious. Reminded me again how fun it is to own a truly individualised air cooled car. I have some ideas for the evolution of my car but it will need to wait a year or two. In the meantime it's interesting to watch cars like yours, Nathan's and Warwick's develop further...

The bodywork will be the last thing touched, and I'm not looking at much in the interior (I already have a great shifter). What I will do is go though the final items that impact on drive experience and reliability. Maybe a bit of bling for the engine, but nothing over the top. Herman is not a show car and never will be. The final work will be on the dyno, possibly over the Christmas holidays. Go cars not show cars!

I wouldn't do the exterior paint yet either. Richard, as you know, will by his own admission never "DRIVE" the 964T. I don't think any of his posse see the kind of workout we regularly give ours. Its a balancing act, and that's why I personally would focus on getting the interior nice and bespoke and the mechanicals perfect, not the exterior pristine. As soon as you do that you will not drive it like it should be driven. Look at Buba, his 993 has already been into the shop last 4 weeks for a large insurance job to fix stone chips and window-screen from a club drive! Its just not worth the stress IMO.
