Thanks again.

Hi guys,

I've been lurking for quite some time and thought it was about time to say hi on this board.
I'm from Central Auckland but moved to London just over a year ago as work opportunities were too good here in London.
I'm on the hunt for a 996 Turbo or ideally a 996/997 GT3 (but these are a little out of my budget at the moment in the U.K, and with Porsche prices continuing to climb in the U.K I fear they'll always be out of reach.)

I'm torn between trying to buy one in the U.K or keep trawling through Trademe.
There's tonnes on Pistonheads, but a manual 996 turbo with less than 60,000 miles is now North of £40,000.
There's a nice silver 996 Turbo on trademe with 64,000km on the clock for $73,995. Its sat for a while though?

Does anyone know where the Dark blue 2003 X50 996 Turbo with factory Aero ended up? It was only on Trademe for 3 days at $75,000 in mid May before it disappeared. Plate was 911X50 and the seller was jmkc in Auckland.
Looked a lovely car and spec from the photos and for the price far better than anything I can find here in the U.K for similar money.

There was also a Black 2002 996 GT2 for sale for a few months back at the start of the year on Trademe. It was listed for $95,000 and had traveled 46,000km. The seller was listed as based in Blenheim.
That same car turned up on Pistonheads a month or two back listed with DK Engineering for £110,000
http://www.dkeng.co.uk/ferrari-sales...rsche_911.html

Judging by the NZ prices and maybe with the NZD dropping against the £, am I better to try and find a car in NZ and sit on it for 6 months and then try and bring it to the U.K to enjoy?

Does anyone know of anyone in NZ tempted to part with their 996 Turbo or 996/997 GT2/3?
Do I keep trawling Trademe or do you guys have a secret brotherhood of cars for sale? 😃

Thanks in advance for the help.
Good on you for reposting. Guess someone forgot to PM you the secret handshake. TradeMe and similar auction sites are probably your number one channel for cars. Macca, Paul and others sometimes have an inside line on private sale cars, but they're a minority.

Your post read like you were testing to see if anyone here was currently looking to sell their car, so the lack of response suggests the answer is probably no. Your wider question about the economics of buying in NZ for the UK is probably best answered by others but the odds are that it makes some sense now, but also increasing sense as the dollar weakens further. Upside of that here is that Mezger GT1 blocked cars may start to appreciate on paper. Probably a fair while still before that happens in real terms (eg on a trade weighted currency basket basis).

Happy hunting!

Hi Geesus

I don't think anyone on here has one for sale at present, if your after a GT2 or GT3 you many need to bide your time and be ready to buy pretty swiftly (probably within 24 hours for a GT3).

With regards to a 996tt, I wouldn't be put off because a car has sat, if you do your DD and it checks out, then go for it.

If it's a GT3 or GT2 you really want, perhaps wait it out, if you want instant gratification, the 996tt is an awesome all rounder.

Haven't looked myself but interesting it's economically viable to send a 996tt overseas.

Neil you should jump on this as a spare (must be a 1/4rd cost of a painted new replacement!):

Hi Gessus.

Not much to add here sorry.

The silver 996TT you are referring to on TM for 74k could likely be bought for late 60K. Even so it would owe you almost 40K GBP by the time you factored in PPI (400 GBP), Deregistration, transport costs to Port, shipping and insurance and de vanning in UK (3K+ GBP), UK VAT, UK compliance and registrations costs (1.5K GBP?) and a decent service (1.5K GBP). Ive inspected the car for a friend recently and it checks out well enough (I looked at service history via the main dealers system & PWSIS). Whilst its tidy and original it does have one large question mark. The PCCBs appear to show oxidation on the disc surfaces. Im not sure if this is good or bad as I have zero PCCB Gen1 knowledge but my thoughts are that it should be inspected by a trusted specialist before a purchase is made. Aside from that its all small stuff perhaps 1-2K to put right (headlight covers have gone a little milky etc).

If you are not on the ground in NZ nor have a trusted party to purchase with a instant line on deposit funds then I should say a risk free GT3/GT2 will be difficult to snag. Local buyers are picking these up swiftly if they are good.

The X50 blue turbo found a new home swiftly and the owner I believe is chuffed. I dont see the car selling again soon. We have more than our share of 996TT in NZ but the majority appear to be tipo. Good low mileage manual cars NZ new with options are firmly in the 70-80K NZD bracket now which is 40K GBP.

IMO if you are serious here then email the dealer for the silver car, have a PPI arranged and I can send you the pictures and commentary on the car...

Hope that helps a little...

On a similar note, I know someone looking for a longhood 911, LHD or RHD. I would imagine that these would readily trade hands without advertising in NZ, and that finding one here is probably a big game of networking and patience.

For those in the know, are there any channels either here or overseas that can be recommended as a starting point? I've seen some UK-based websites listed on these pages before (e.g. pistonheads) but as there are sometimes 5 pages a day being added to this thread, some of those posts can be pretty hard to find

Inspiration for Chris B? Functional looking aero; the Cayman layout offers an advantage over the 911 when it comes rear diffuser design.

Highly recommend the CTek. Have had one in my car since having my battery run flat thanks to a valet whilst in Wellington. Never again!!

Bought one a few weeks ago too. Beach Hop had a special on them for ticket holders at $105! I paid $135 for mine too.

Sorry dude, welcome aboard:

The X50 996T sold within a day.

On the GT3/GT2 front - you will need to join the cue and be in a postion to jump quickly - they are as rare as rocking horse poo-doo. You really need to be here and beating down leads or offering an existing owner over the odd's for theirs?

I have 6.2 GT3 that you can buy for 75K of your lovely pounds - a bargain now that I see some muppets are trying to get over $100K

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...11-gt3/4447779

It will be easier to buy a 996T - but good ones are hard to come by......

Been a happy CTek man now for 13 years now. Tip = You need the snow flake mode for AMG batteries. Both my Porsches have AGM batteries. They may not work on LiOn. Be warned.

Pay me 70K GBP and you can have my famous 993 C2 Speed with all the spares, cover extra seats etc, handles better than a 993RS and is far more unique.

Pay me 100K GBP and you can have my 991 GT3 Clubsport 003 (next March after SITT :-)) and Ill throw in a genuine cover, Ctek charger, Sharkworks bypass.

Hows that for getting teh ball rolling :-)

Macca said "AMG batteries" - thought this was only a Mercedes option, lol.
