Very glad I took part while it's still around as it may only be a few more safety initiatives away from fading into legend.

Great summary Doug. I take it you didn't actually mean to list readily available emergency services as a con though?

LOL! However living in the third world I do take health and safety very seriously. Darwinism. Not imposed by government but both Jo and I have done advanced medic courses (roadside triage) and every one of our vehicles (including the GT3 during the Northland runs a few weeks ago) are equipped with First Aid kits. Id like to add a Sat phone but he one I have access to here does not belong to me so I spoke with this to Doug as well. A number of you will have heard me complain but most of NZ geographically does not appear to have cellular service including most of the roads we are driving. I have bought a long range set of hand led RT which Patsy and I tested on a Ron Run a few weeks ago but these only address in car communications between lead driver and "tail end Charlie".

The simple fact is in the jungle you can live or die based on simple preparation. Id like to see us fork for a Iridium phone + connection as a group to share on these runs and Id happy pay my due here.

Paul, by way of example if your back road late brake incident in North-land had ended up differently a few weeks ago we may well have have had a First Aid kit and a made a tourniquet from a sock but its quite likely you would have bled out if we could not have been able to get a call through to the ambulance service as none of us may have been fit enough to cover the 3km of clear ground in time to the farmers house in time to use the landline to save your ***! Not trying to scare anyone - just saying. I wouldn't preach it is I didn't already live by it elsewhere. Do dangerous things - Im ok with that - but do them with some preparation should they go wrong if you can?

Anyway on a less morbid topic - my thoughts would be to leave the GT3 on factory Geo. Its already fairly reasonable at around -1.30 F+R IIRC. The extra camber will only benefit you on the track but will not on the road. I wouldnt mess with the height just yet either. Get it set up the way the factory sent them out the door and then tweak later if it takes your fancy IMO. Keeps the spend down too. Its already a great package for road and track...

Just got back from HD. Cut the Gymkhana short. It was 10C and so wet that traction was very limited. The 3rd exercise was complicated, even the demonstrator couldn't get it right. Decision made. Go home early and spend some time with Family.

Paul, I thought your sister was really keen turning up today, then when I saw her driving the penny dropped. Good to see you're not trying your luck with Mr Plod. And yes I'll take you up on the GT3 offer

Walter/Doug, you have a good list of +ve / -Ve of the two options. I worry most about taking out a bystander on our B road runs. Getting out very early and on less populated roads is about as good as we can get there. While Targa cures that problem, I only have so much patience with structure and I don't have $5,000 to lay down on a 3 or 4 day event. In that regard a South Island tour, with or without tracks is the best value by far. Bring on March 2016.

I recall discussing it with Doug and his rationale made sense that a car in a group could go get help, albeit we have that golden hour and some places we go would use much of that up. Maybe an emergency beacon? In the back of my mind is how many RSG members have walked away from crashes. I never want to be in a position dealing with a situation where someone doesn't walk away. Preparation is very important but equally avoiding low percentage manoeuvres will reduce the chance of accidents. The problem is that the very thing that motivates us to do these activities means we aren't always smart. I think in future B road runs we should go out as a group but run in pairs and regularly stop to rejoin as a group.

John. Running in pairs was actually what spurred me on this idea back in Jan. We were simply lucky to have you as passenger on one of those three days. No one to drive anywhere whilst stabilising a patient.

Its very safe statistically to skydive but you wouldn't think about packing a back up shute? The stats don't favour us so well but we "ride bareback" most of the time simply hoping nothing goes wrong?

Beacon is good but there is a hefty fine for a transponder in inadvertently activated in NZ. For what it would cost Id say a Sat phone is still one of the best options. Pack it with a comprehensive First Aid kit, a triangle and a tow rope and a driver brief and we have been as responsible as possible....

To quote Bob Jones "I don't take risks, as I see them as unecessary" - 2 weeks down, and the next 2 weeks will go by in a breeze. I flew to work yesterday at 3500 feet - was very cool.............

^^^ 100% agreed - NITT's and SITT's for me too. I really enjoyed the Targa Tour, but getting too costly to participate on a regular basis. I have driven x 1 and a bit and co-driven twice. Would need to be something special or half the RSG attending again for me to attend.

What RSG needs is its own forum for certain discussions.

Oh, wait...

Think ChrisB ran them in the Ecolight Sprint a while back, so he may have an idea. What is written on the sidewall? Individual officers/WOFers may have varying interpretations of the words.

Yes, they're just the on-camera mkes. With the cam behind the seats it can't pick up much dialogue out of the helmets. I have a dedicated audio recorder too but it decided to stop working on batteries just before Targa. There were better and more telegenic stages as you know but I only recorded some - and had the camera placed too high up for many of those. Looking forward to seeing yours, with the tighter camera angle.

In the meantime, here's a great mix of the Zeltners' GT3RS attacking the DRM stages as it looks from outside their car. Check out 8.45 to see what it takes to get some of this footage.
