You know, if you were about to buy a $45k euro daily driver and wear $7k a year in depreciation, that 928 is a viable alternative.
Agree Dave; if you were about to buy a euro daily, the 928 presents an interesting proposition. Especially if it looks like this : http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/j...ion/r124198301

Most of us would have been saying that at $50K!! What is silly money?? It's just the new price point??

Not defending the price - just saying it?

Dave - what do you think is the 'correct' price for the white 3.2 Carrera?

Probably 911 TOY and 9ii TOY. All upper case.

Another awesome Trackday today at Highlands. Got some pics and will post tomorrow. Very cloudy but dry and about 9 degrees.

Yes, I think someone should give it a go as an experiment. Get it sorted then sell it on to me.

I reckon $45k. Fifty is stretching it but it is NZ new, and a good colour. It seems to be a fine line between it going in a few hours or it sitting overpriced for weeks.
If I was in the market for a 3.2, I would just pay the $45k if it was all good. Anything under $40k it would be one of those things that you couldn't turn down if you needed one or not.
The blue 3.2 LHD conversion at a starting price of $37.5k will be interesting to watch.

Default SITT 2015 Highlands 16 March 2015

Again we had forecast of rain but this time none eventuates. Very cloudy but dry. Cold at around 9 degrees. At briefing there's talk of reducing to two groups so we get more track time. Numbers have dwindled as a few cars have had problems and gone home apparently. As it turns out, we just run the three groups all afternoon and get six sessions each. The track as expected in excellent condition and facilities superb. That back area that we left thru last time is now all sealed and it's like a new subdivision that they're putting apartments on, with garages underneath. The one being built is in one of the photos.

I go for a ride with Robert on familiarization laps to get a few more pointers. Then for the first session Robert suggests to Dave Allison that he comes with me. We have a great time as we go out behind Joe (GTR). It's Joe's first time on this track so he lets us pass after a couple of laps and decides to follow instead. Dave was pretty impressed that the M5 was competitive with the GTR and my incar GoPro video is quite hilarious. I haven't been called a "good boy" for years . In the second session Phil Jones came out with me. Not much drama apart from a slight misunderstanding with Prestigio boss John when I start to pass him on the right and he moves to the right to let me pass on the left. The rest of the day was a pretty standard busy trackday, with not long to wait between sessions. Good to meet a few more Porsche people.

And nice to meet you Ponto, perhaps you'd like to join us on the tour next year?

Had a nice dinner with Robert, Dave, Phil, Luke and Les. They think I should buy a race car instead of the GT4. Driving up to Timaru with them today - that could be interesting.

Has anyone fitted their garage out with specialist cupboards and can recommend brands etc? I want to keep the floor space free for cars.

haha now you are getting to the big dilemma that many others have trod before you. For the price of the gt4 you can get a good race car and run the budget for a few years. You will get the low down and from Rob, Dave and the boys as there are a few more dinners yet this week to get convinced (or not). Many others on this forum can and will also give you their views

Can't help really, other than to say I'd always liked to get a custom setup from a joiner done, probably be much the same price as buying specialist garage cupboards. Plus the kitchen place we use has a new plywood carcass which is claimed to have a very long life when compared to your chipboard or mdf carcasses that most use.

Then I also remembered this garage. Awesome: http://www.themotoringenthusiastjour...uge_garage.htm

Won't be for you John, because you need every inch of floor, but for those who can spare half a bay or so and want to maximise the storage potential of it, those Lundia rolling shelf systems are brilliant.

I have a bit of height at one end of my garage and have been wondering about getting a custom mini mezzanine put in to get everything off the floor and create more space

Isn't that the truth. Phil almost had me convinced about a 944 until I found out the true cost of racing and went the 2k cup route. I'm very happy with my decision. At some stage I may try a 944, but it won't be until I know writing an annual cheque for $25,000 is feasible and that I would be competitive.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't thought about custom. My garage ceiling holds the pipes for the upstairs water supply and one sprang a leak two days before I got home. Luckily it was relatively slow and not over the cars but anything resting on the ground was wet.

This is the third leak in 4 years. The other two were bathrooms. Water proof cabinetry is a must as is no floor contact. I would like to get a scissor hoist as well so using the maximum floor space will allow me to work on a car while still being able to drive others.

I also want room for some tool toys. Maybe a compressor, engine stand etc.

So, that white 3.2 has sold. If something goes in a morning - it was too cheap.

I want to follow the same route as you. I have a very large 4 car garage but quite a low ceiling so a hoist of any sort is out. I am using customwood cabinets and benchtops I made 20 years ago but want to do a proper fit out, paint the floor etc. Stainless steel bench tops and metal cabinetry. I'll be interested in your research.

The plywood idea sounds pretty good though.
