I have been doing track days for 3 years now. I was doing them by myself as a 'no mates' before the RSG and have had my fill for a bit. I still enjoy going to the track, but it doesn't consume me to the same degree.
Taupo was a wet day. The suspension on the 993 was too stiff and I was on mediocre road tires and just wasn't having any fun on the track.
Taupo was always a social weekend as I wasn't planning to go to Manfield.
Yes - I had more fun shopping and having a Spa with the missus, and a cheaper day than Tony............
This year the NITT will just be a road trip and I probably won't even sign up for the track (unless James brings his 993 to Manfield - at which point the car may be lowered and some neg camber re-introduced)

I agree with Macca that I don't second take 996/997/991 cars as they are more subtle and common sight than the earlier cars. They need big wings and bright stickers to make them pop.
I think Cayman's will the be track and enthusiasts car of choice. We just need to wait for Gen II's to be circa $35-40K - which will be a while..........
I really like the Magnus 997 GT2. It's tasteful, playful and you notice the car.
It could be easily done and reversed with well wrapped panels.
The problem with the old cars is you just can't make them go like the new cars.
For a little over $100K you can have a 996 GT2 or 997TT with 500hp. The early stuff only gets over 350HP with a $50K engine rebuild, and then another $50K in brakes, chassis and suspension development.......
As Chris B and Macca will attest - having circa 500HP is very addictive.........
Poor Macca's 993 has been totally dumped and side-lined?? "Anniversary" who??

Have to admit Paul the 993 has been sidelined a bit in this trip. It hasn't been driven yet although I've sat in it twice fired it up to move it 20m out of the storage unit for access and its s glorious place to be with that distinctive smell and the sound when it fires up like a thunder storm in the tropics. I do love it very much. I think I'll keep it....
Currently it's on hard settings with massive negative camber and z221s. Given its going on track on the 13 Jan I've elected not to use it till then. After I'll put the super sport back on have a new geo and soften it up for targa.
Anyway agree with all you say. Will be nice having you along buba to make tea during NITT. Here's a summer pic from today's drive. I gave up after 30 mins because of all the cops!

Shame Macca. Hit Ron up for a map of one of his runs. He has some lovely b/c road runs beginning out by ChrisB's place. Also those roads I gave you out there, aim for miranda on the tom tom with max windy roads setting and you should get some fun in relative peace.
Really missing not being able to go for any interesting runs here due to lack of a suitable car. Hanging out for next Monday for my Chch collection. Can't wait to fire her up with the sport exhaust and listen to the music. I'm planning on taking a "reasonably" direct route to Auckland but working on a few small diversion highlights. On the SH it's going to be on cruise control at 103.9
First run will be with David from Chch to Kaikoura. May take the inland route if you're up for it David :-P

Once the 964 is started I may look at hosting a meet at my shop for those who want to take a gander.
If you are going to the Feb track day I may see you there and will introduce myself, I was at Dec's one as my friend Eion had come up from Wellington in his 993 and I was in my Mustang that day.
How does the forum view posting about customers cars I work on?
No.

Today I got a rare day off from the partner and baby. Had a good blast out to Raglan with the local Zanzibar GT3, via some nice twisty roads through Waingaro. Didn't see any boys in blue. Gotta love rural roads.

Thanks, as much as possible I try and do everything inc paint as 99% of shops I've used can't deliver the attention to detail I want. Fair call, I was just stirring As you say, I bet Tony wishes he'd done the same.

Keen to see any resto work on here but not Hondas please!!
Doug, I was out Sunday with Ron so didn't want to bug him. That said I was driving alone and after passing 3 cops on the main routes just decided to give it up. Karma was telling me something. Probably that I've been testing the limits a bit lately!
Looking forward to the trip North! Have a trip to Te Kuiti to warm up on Friday/sat - can anyone suggest a proven back road route?
