Thoughts on the new corvette?

Thanks for posting.. They've definitely taken pages out of Porsche's book with the emphasis on deviated stitching, seat belts, and other interior contrasts. The transmission functions are straight out of a Huracan. GPS FAL is a bit of a gimmick but overall very well done! I'm certain this car is in my near future. It will never be seamless like a Porsche in terms of overall driving and touches but who cares. I'll take the cheapness. Just too much bang for the buck here.

Yeah, so you have no fing clue what you are talking about. You just enjoy your Porsche. I will do - several of them. But I am also not blind to what Chevy has done with the last 20 years on these cars.
I mean this IS a Porsche forum. Fair-nuff - but please, don't let your bias cause outright ignorance.

So I've been contemplating the whole $60k base price proposition that's getting so much traction and I've come away with a slightly different take on it.
Now as has always been the case and has been mentioned numerous times, the Corvette has always offered 'accessible' performance, which is to say a lot of performance for the money. This has been even more prominent since the C6 Z06/ZR1, and was really highlighted in the C7 Z06/ZR1.
Here's the downside of offering a $60k base price ... the base model defines what the upstream models will be. Meaning that they might improve individual components like the engine, brakes, suspension etc, but they will not improve on the fundamental components of the car itself. The GT2RS, even though it is almost three times the price of a base Carrera is essentially the same car ... it looks the same inside, it is built the same, just with upgraded aero and components. Same with the C7 Z06/ZR1, which were identical to a base Corvette with just different aero and components. So the cheaper the base the less inherent quality there is going to be built into it. GM is obviously in it to make money, so to offer a mid engine car at a $60k base there have to be compromises, unless they've reinvented the car manufacturing wheel that base price compromises will not only show in the base model but will also show in the upstream models.
TLDR, anyone expecting Porsche level build quality and finishes will likely be disappointed. As always GM will deliver a Vette that punches above its price weight in performance and hopefully they get the build quality to an acceptable level as they did with the C7. Basically the 'expectations are the building blocks of disappointment' mantra is even more applicable here, notwithstanding the romanticism of the mid engine hype.
As far as the Z06 competing with the 992 GT3, one would only hope that GM learned their embarrassing lesson from the C7 and will never boast a track car again that in its automatic iteration can't handle track temps, my guess is that they will cause they got roasted for it.
All that said, this is a big technological shift for a car company ... personally this is a car that I'm not going to rush to guinea pig for GM on my dime, I'd give even more time that usual for them to work out its inevitable issues.

So they moved this thread now and combined all of them and put it away to the graveyard part of the forum.
What a joke. Seriously, some really thin skin somewhere around here.
The C8 that much of a threat to the establishment??
I think Porsche and their dealer games have pissed off so many buyers and enthusiasts that the brand loyalty has been greatly diminished. Cars are still selling (but the hype and prices have dropped), but seems like there are a lot of lurking bad feelings.

Wow. Thin skinned is right. Does Porsche own IB forums?

Chevy I know you're reading. Host a driving event for enthusiasts here. Would be the smartest thing you could do.
Porsche flys journalists out to Spain and the Canary Islands. Fly out a bunch of Rennlisters out to Detroit for a drive. That would be gorilla marketing at its finest. Think outside the box, it will do wonders. Rob can organize it. He's good at that kinda stuff

Many dealers are sponsors and Porsche has a lot of influence over IB. A marketing arm of the brand like PCA.

This. I hope the corvette is a wilder success than anyone expects forcing Porsche to stop the dealer games, build more cars so everyone gets what they want and maybe build a proper mid engine car. And no one give me the GT4 bs. The GT4 is still neutered.

Everybody should just add the below pic to their signature block in protest of every thread being moved from RL. I'm a car guy and a free speech fanatic.

As far as I know there have been no independent press drives or any other independent drives. I am skeptical at $60k or even $70k. I love Corvettes having owned several. I will reserve judgement until the tests are run. I hope it turns out to be a great value sports cars. I would gladly add one to my garage.
