The exterior looks the part of a much more expensive car and the performance numbers (at least on paper) are solid. I think most cars will end up being optioned to closer to $70k, but that's still a lot of car for the money.

Weight is where cost comes into play. Keeping the price lower means allowing a bit more weight. So intriguing. If the C8 is fast but requires great skill or guts to drive fast, its not for me. That was a primary reason I selected a 718 over a 911.

Default New mid-engine Corvette

I thought it looks amazing with very strong specs (0-60 under 3 seconds, dual clutch transmission, and very high cornering specs). I strongly suspect 718 might be in trouble as sticker is under $70k for that kind of performance and looks while 911 is different.

I *think* at some point there was some sort of six cylinder Corvette race prototype running around. But that was some time ago.

Really wish they would have gone with plain round tail lights, instead of those squinty Camaro-looking ones. The side intake also could use more flowing curves and less choppy angles; IMHO that looks odd.
Also the center console is a bit too high, even though I love the cockpit feeling.

The old saying of "never buy the 1st year model, because they need to work the bugs out" is probably not as true as it used to be, but it will be interesting to see how Chevy further develops this one. Seems like within 3-4 years, they always tweek the styling and performance in some way.
Regardless, I think the new Corvette might be bumping an Alfa Romeo 4C off my wish list.
I'm gonna guess GM knows full well that this mid engine release is a sink or fly thing. In development for years so better be right out of the gate.

Then you chose incorrectly. The 911 platform is inherently more stable at the limit than 718...

I have to admit the first (and only) time I pushed my 911 hard on a super twisty road was the day I fell in love with it. It was terrifying and exhilarating in a way my Boxster GTS has never matched.

But I completely understand where you are coming from. It is why I chose a Boxster over a Corvette in the first place. I can drive my Boxster like a complete savage (at autocross) and it never bites. Only bad part about that for me is hopping in a different car and trying to drive in the same manner. It does not work.
