Forget the money thing..it's all about performance and looks. Kiss the Cayman goodbye IF all the technical Vette issues are gone (fading brakes, overheating, etc.)
However, I can't believe that GM interior still goes on. Obviously not seeing it in person, to me it's not good....GM needs to move on from the older guys on the Vette design team
Interior is hideous. Exterior is too busy, but I thought the same about the C7. Designers at GM need to put the pencil down, stop drawing lines and angles. Leave the futuristic stuff to Acura, too much NSX vibe.
Performance wise, looks interesting. I will definitely test drive one if that's possible. I had dealers in DFW tell me 1 year after the C7 came out that I couldn't test drive one unless I signed a purchase agreement. Funny, those guys.
The C8's curb weight is 3366 lbs. By comparison the curb weight of a 992 is 3340 with a MT, which means that it will exceed the C8's curb weight when equipped with PDK as probably 80% will.
Uhh Porsche hasn’t released a 992 manual yet. It is only available with PDK so your statement is false.
not fair to compare c8 to gt4 based on price. gt4 is twice the price. compare c8 to base cayman and Porsche might as well stop production today. the 4 cyl cannot compare regardless of the weight difference. yes, cayman can have a stick but that's about all it has going for it. they better turn it into an all electric car fast for any hope. c8 has 911 performance and cayman price. winner. and same goes for r8, nsx, 570, even gtr are all in trouble
Actually you'll have to buy a GT3 to get C8 performance, at least straight line performance. No data yet that I've seen on track performance. A 992S has 443 HP compared to the 495 of the C8, and I expect that the 992S and C8s curb weight will be about the same. I'd expect to pay at least $130K for a moderately equipped 992S whereas a nicely equipped C8 will probably be no more than $75K.
If Porsche had come out with a Ferrari-esque car like this with similar performance it would likely be around $250k with ADM. I’m at a point where I can buy whatever I want and could care less what people think but honestly the C8 just looks like a whole bunch of fun and starts at about the price of a 718. Very anxious to see if it puts a big grin on the face of reviewers once the videos start to land and if so I might go to the dark side for awhile.
60k, 500hp, and 3300 lbs? Oh man. This or a base 718?
Exactly. Let that sink in a while.
Chevy did good. If they hadn't changed it guys would say same old. If they do then oh I can't believe it. You are getting 500 Hp man. Base car. C'mon. Yeah that's only GT3 level ha.
Interior - hey it looks good. I have seen less - I had a Ferrari one time back in the day.
Take the $100,000 you didn't spend on the GT3 interior, because thats why guys buy GT3s right , and take your babe to the Maldives and see what she thinks of the interior out there.
I like Porsche as evidenced by I am picking up one tomorrow. But I like this and I am going to give it a serious look. Chevy did a great job and at least tried to keep it in the range that a car guy with some money and a decent income can get into one.
There is a plus for us if we want a 911 even. The price of used 911s (and Lambo's) is fixing to go down. Win.

For the $70k USD range, it’s choosing between a 6.2L NA V8 with 495 hp, and a 2L 4 cylinder with laggy turbochargers pushing it to 300 hp. Certainly a much more attractive engine in the Vette than the base Cayman, or even the S/GTS.
The Cayman is still shorter, narrower, lighter, and probably more nimble. The Cayman may still have better balance and steering feel - we’ll see what the reviewers say. They Cayman also has a more tasteful interior in my opinion at least.
Porsches have always had less power per dollar than Corvette, but the Cayman/Boxster used to still have nice, responsive, high revving, and nice sounding motors. Caymans were never muscle cars, but they sold for their balance, agility, and still having nice motors despite lacking in grunt.
The problem with the 718 base is that the 2.0T four banger is a disappointing motor. I’d consider it poor even if it were powering a family Kia crossover. It’s not just the sound, but rather the terrible low RPM response that kills it for me.
If Porsche brings back a lower spec flat six into their S or GTS trims at least, that would Cayman competitive with the Vette again. It won’t be more powerful, but they never were. However, an NA6 motor will once again start to complement the car, and the other merits of the Cayman can make it more enjoyable than a C8 Vette.
As for the looks, I have mixed views on the Vette. It does adopt a “supercar” body shape and roofline height, and the extremely busy design with lines and cuts and creases everywhere will draw attention. People who want a “hey look at me, I have a supercar” style of car may appreciate the exterior styling. However, Porsche buyers tend to appreciate the more rounded, curvy, and understated look.
I've never even owned an American car and still don't have much of a desire to, but I gotta give credit where credit is due. The C8 feels fresh while retaining the Corvette ethos as far as I can tell. Love them trying the ME layout, retaining NA engine, interior finish seems higher quality, *and* supposedly still starting under 60K making it way affordable for many
