Thoughts on the new corvette?
#2416
It was a bit of a sarcastic rhetorical question knowing how many problems Porsche themselves have had in recent years
Trust me, I've been on the Corvette forums plenty since 7/18
still may end up trying out a Cayman while the wait time and dust settles on the C8 though.

I sure hope everyone is OK.. cuz it looks like they're pulling a child out of the red truck.
News of "The C8 Crash of 2019" is spreading all over the interwebz like wildfire.
This happened sooner than I expected. Wonder what happened.

Hmmm, first I've heard that. Interesting.

A 300 HP 4cyl turbo Cayman stickers for just a couple thousand less than a 495 HP NA C8. Nothing wrong with the Cayman, but I'd be reluctant to buy one until I got more info on the C8 which probably won't be for a couple of months. I'm not saying that the C8 is a better car than a Cayman, but the C8 has a lot of promise. A friend of mine just placed an order for a C8 and was told to expect delivery in July 2020. Also, GM is only building the 2LT C8s in the initial production cycle, so that $60K C8 will not be available until later in the production cycle.

The C8 sounds very promising, and is very likely destined to be one of the all-time greats unless GM steps on their own **** somehow. But it is not a substitute for a lightweight two-seater with a 911 engine. Neither is a 718.

The C8 is the size of a Macan, and the other market contenders have drawbacks that are just as glaring. That's why so many customers were pissed at Porsche for nerfing the Boxster and Cayman... there's nothing left on the market for us at less than 2x the price.

I hear you, but unfortunately the days of small lightweight cars are dead. One problem is that there are so many federally mandated safety requirements that make it all but impossible to get a car under 3K lbs with a NA engine producing a significant amount of HP. Another problem is that people are getting taller and heavier. Just a WAG, but I doubt that many people today could fit into my 1970 Triumph GT6. That car's curb weight was under 2K lbs, and it was tiny. And last but not least is that high end buyers demand luxury even in sports cars. Put this all together and you get a 3354 lb base 992 that will sticker for around $120K, when moderately optioned.

Interesting quote::
It corners flat, though. "We're doing something here that Porsche couldn't do, unless it inverted its lineup," Juechter says. "It's 911 performance along with the best attributes of the Boxster and Cayman. And some Lexus refinement thrown in, which might surprise people."

It has been a while since I have looked at the LFA interior, but interesting to note the slim A/C vents as well as the wide center console area of the car.
Pininfarina Battista interior:
My initial reaction to the interior of the C8 was a bit underwhelming, but the more that I look at the interior the more I feel that it is well executed.
Hope that there will be an option in the future to tone down all the shiny surfaces to reduce glare during daytime driving.

Thanks for the post. Nice article and can't wait to read hands on reviews. Seems like they may have knocked it out of the ballpark here.

At the end of the day it is still a Corvette.
And in my mind that is not good. There is, no doubt, a reason why they keep changing it. The American automobile industry just can't see the difference between a sophisticated, well tuned sports car and a muscle car. To me, the Corvette is a muscle car and nothing more.
