”3,600 lbs” is also conjecture, as we don’t know yet. The consensus is that it will be around 3,600 lbs, which means it can be in the mid-high 3,600’s.

Let's start with what is factual. The dry weight of a C8 is 3366 lbs. The big three for curb weight is fuel - aprox 111 lbs, oil 56 lbs, and coolant 25 lbs. which comes to 192 lbs for a C8. Just a guess but 24 lbs for transmission fluid. So 3600 lbs or a tad less seems about right.
Figures I’m seeing for a base and standard 991.1 Carrera (which is what I specifically used as a comparison to a base and standard C8) shows 3,042. The 991.2 added 100-150 lbs over the 991.2 and the 992 adds another 100+ lbs to that.

So comparing to a base 991.1 Coupe, the C8 can easily go to 600+ lbs heavier, if it goes over 3,642 lbs.
Lots of reasons for cars getting heavier, but one big one is federal safety mandates which get more draconian each year. The 991 was introduced in Frankfurt in 2011. Do you really believe it's fair comparing the curb weight of a 2011 car with a 2019 car? How about comparing a 2020 model to a 2020 model? The curb weight of a 992S is 3382 lbs. So that would be about 220 lbs less than the projected 3600 lb curb weight of a C8. Let's not forget one point. The 992S has a 3.0L engine whereas the C8 has a 6.2L engine. Gotta believe that 6.2L engine weighs a lot more than the 992's 3.0L engine. I much prefer a NA larger engine than a turbocharged smaller engine, despite the extra weight..

I've been at Road America every day since Thursday, splitting up my time between my Porsche friends and my Corvette friends. Usually they intermingle but Porsche put on their traditional Porsche Platz for PCA members / Porsche owners while the Corvette crew was gallivanting around the track on Golf Carts.

So I'd pop into the tent now and then to chat with the PCA folk, then hop back on a Golf Cart to watch as much racing from as many spots as possible.

#1 Reoccurring topic among the Porsche people: "Why isn't a 992 here?
Next most popular topic: "Have you checked out the C8 yet?"

Corvette guys talked a lot about the C8, they don't care about any new 911 and wouldn't have bothered to check it out had one been there.

Yes, it was roped off. Then we found this one parked in gen pop in a grass field next to the Sargento bridge.

So let's recap. IMSA race sponsored by Porsche, GT3 cup support race, Porsche hospitality tent for owners, Championship pretty much locked up for the 911RSR team...... No 992.

Meanwhile just 15 days since the C8 was unveiled, GM brought a pair to Road America........

As far as, only a mother could like, the car is stunning from every angle, especially in person that's one of the reasons it's kicking Porsche in the teeth, daily. Have you taken a look at the Robocop back of the new 911? Good luck...

The C8 is annihilating every Porsche sports car made in attention and sales right now...can you tell I'm enjoying it...

The rear end certainly isn't the C8's strong point, especially from certain vantage points. OTOH I saw a white C8 in person without a wing and it looked fine.

Whenever I see a hoop spoiler like that, I think of a shopping cart handle.

I’d rather the N/A V8 over a soulless 3.0 turbo too. Ideally I’d prefer an N/A flat six with 400+ HP over either.

I currently have a 991.1, so for me it only makes sense to compare it to what I’m currently used to. A 400-600 lb weight difference is massive, no matter how it’s cut.

You don’t seem to be enjoying it. You seem angrily defending it. It’s getting attention because it’s a mass produced mid engine sports car for a relatively bargain price. Not brain surgery here. Porsche will manage to sell plenty of 911’s with a lot less power at a much higher cost, sans the C8’s initial hype, because there will be people will choose their merits over that of the Chevy. Imagine that.

Rapid Blue Corvette C8

Thanks for the pics. I think the whole design flows well including the back end. It fits the whole design well.

992 ready to hit dealers and not one?? Better to keep it hidden away

The C8 has the WHOLE sports car enthusiast market talking.

I don't see how an ugly 992 rear end makes the butt-ugly C8 rear end more palatable. Don't quite follow the logic.
