Yet still, I was talking about the design. 911’s are largely the same design, every time. E.g: no gimmicks. And they’re the only car (other than maybe a G Class ans Wrangler) with the clout to pull that off. Hence: timeless. Vette tried that but their potion didn’t prove as successful, so they had to start changing it up. Nevermind spanning generations.... can you imagine how dated that awkward “squished Camaro” C8 rear will look in 5 years?
Park a 993 next to a 992 and tell me it's largely the same design. No doubt some similarity, but far from the same design. IMO the 993 is a beautiful car whereas the 992 looks like a slug. Amazing to me how anyone will pay $120K+ for that car.
992 rsr championship locked up ??? Really, there are 4 races to go, last time I checked. Is that locked up with the mid-engine 911 race car that doesn't exist but got a pass ?.
I haven't been following the points at all this year, just repeating what I heard over and over again this weekend how Porsche had the championship locked up or pretty much locked up, this was the Vette guys talking.
Point was, Porsche has a major footprint this weekend in Elkhart Lake, huge crowds even on Friday....yet no sign of the new car. Very odd the more I think about it.

If I were head of PCNA I would have brought half a dozen 992's to Road America all in different colors and spent the weekend driving around the paddock stirring up attention. There are open parking spots right by the GM booth....park a couple there.

I guess you missed the 992 launch. It was plenty gimmicky and as for the smoke........
And the 992 rear isn’t perfect, but it’s still smooth and I think far better and more cohesively designed than the Vettes clunky/cheap ish posterior. The C8 rear has actually risen the 992 rears stock, if anything.
I think you're both right there. The shortcomings with the 992 rear would be a LOT easier to fix, though. All they needed was some halfway-competent designers for elements such as the typescript and the CHMSL. Frankly that's true of the interior as well -- the bones are solid enough, but the details amount to low-effort amateur work. 500 million not-so-Red Chinese don't give a hoot, so neither does Porsche.
On the other hand, the C7 and C8 designers knew what they were doing, stylistically. I just don't like either of those cars' rear ends. The C7's "gangster tears" taillight treatment was actively annoying, so the generic corporate design on the C8 rear is actually an improvement IMO.
I think the rear looks fine on the C8. It goes with the rest of the car.
If they had put the round taillights of yesteryear they would be saying oh so it the same old same old. Im pretty sure that wasn't in the Chevy plan to have to have that happen.
What happened right here in the thread - oh it still has that "old motor" making only 500 hp. Yeah only.
In my days the really nice rear with the really nice face and all around great style and performance was the thing to have . . . . you know a nice matching package, and it still works!

the rep told me yesterday at the showing that they purposely kept it under the magic number of 500 HP, due to the cost and hassle of insuring a car over 500 HP.... Sounds like a smart move when trying to sale $60K sports car these days
Haha! Total BS. I have a C63 507 Edition AMG. It costs no more to insure than the regular C63, which was under 500hp.
Chevy did it so they can have room to add more hp for the Z06 and other trim levels.

As far as, only a mother could like, the car is stunning from every angle, especially in person that's one of the reasons it's kicking Porsche in the teeth, daily. Have you taken a look at the Robocop back of the new 911? Good luck...
The C8 is annihilating every Porsche sports car made in attention and sales right now...can you tell I'm enjoying it...
What I can tell is that you join the forum and only post in this thread which tells us much about your personality.
I hope the C8 is a huge success. Car guys win when there is strong competition.
