Thanks for the pics. I think the whole design flows well including the back end. It fits the whole design well.
992 ready to hit dealers and not one?? Better to keep it hidden away
The C8 has the WHOLE sports car enthusiast market talking.
911’s have had the WHOLE enthusiast market talking for 60 years. Under $60K for a mid engine sports car will have people talking. Not exactly a huge accomplishment yet considering not one driver report has surfaced. Great. Now let’s see if they’re still talking in 3+ years. Let’s see how they hold up in time.
Chevy got phase one complete: A mid engine N/A 495 HP car for a starting price under $60K. The real test will be if the compromises made to get it there will prove damaging. How they’ll hold up in value. How GM manages production. How durable the car will be. How it’ll feel on backroads. How tight the chassis will feel in time.
For now they have a mostly good looking car, save for a ghastly rear that even YouTube reviewers are stating is widely panned in their comment sections as looking too cheap/GM corporate, with great paper specs. The C7 launched to huge fanfare too. Then it simmered down fairly quickly.
Thank you for that visual proof as to what hot and serious mid engine rears look like, and how hilariously rental-car-esque + comically squished/boxy the C8’s is in comparison. They aren’t on the same planets when put next to each other.
Tell the bosses at GM marketing that was a big miss.

You tend base you opinion by the price tag of things like a label *****.
Reality is the C8 starts at the same price of a 4 banger Porsche 718.
One of these 992's with a $150K build will be worth $90K 3 years later. That's $60K depreciation. Oh wait, the TOTAL price of a base C8. LOL. Talk about deprecation.
So the C8 depreciates like a normal car? Who cares. That's what cars do. They aren't investments. So a C8 loses $15K-$20K after 3 years?? Boo hoo. Who cares.
That has zero to do with what I said. In fact, it goes against your own point.
I’ll restate: 911’s have had people talking for 60 years. They never launch to big popping smoke or gimmicks. Just one, solid, carefully evolved timeless theme that stands alone in the car industry as confidently playing by its own rules and doesn’t resort to massive redesigns nor follows crowds (that’s why we buy it). Why? Because it’s the sports car benchmark. Vettes often launch to huge fanfare then simmer down. Several of them in that picture you posted. The last 3 generations have been completely manic changes because it was losing its luster and GM had to reinvent its wheel.
It’s way to early to celebrate the C8 as a success.
And the 992 rear isn’t perfect, but it’s still smooth and I think far better and more cohesively designed than the Vettes clunky/cheap ish posterior. The C8 rear has actually risen the 992 rears stock, if anything.

Has everything to do with it. You just react without taking in any comments.
The Corvette has has people talking for over 60 years as well. It's America's sports car and loved worldwide.

Price has zero to do with the fact that the C8’s rear looks fundamentally “cheap” in pure design and doesn’t get near stacking up to those other cars you posted.
Believe it or not, but not everyone will love and parade every ounce of that car like someone who gave birth to it (or is on the payroll of who gave birth to it). Some (many, judging by various comment sections) simply think the C8’s rear falls far short. So short it actually has me (gasp) appreciating the 992 rear a tad.

Really??? In LA with smoke and any C list actor they can find?? LOL.
Yet still, I was talking about the design. 911’s are largely the same design, every time. E.g: no gimmicks. And they’re the only car (other than maybe a G Class ans Wrangler) with the clout to pull that off. Hence: timeless. Vette tried that but their potion didn’t prove as successful, so they had to start changing it up. Nevermind spanning generations.... can you imagine how dated that awkward “squished Camaro” C8 rear will look in 5 years?
