While in my local Porsche Dealer finalizing my 992 C2S spec, I had the opportunity to get the Managers view on the upcoming 718 EV. I asked him a simple question: What are your thoughts on the 718 EV? Simple enough I thought.....
His answer started with a current dismal sales state of the Taycan, and how they are having significant difficulties selling them. He then pivoted to the 718 and stated that if the Taycan is any indication of future 718 EV sales, it will be "dead on arrival". I asked him if they had a "waitlist" on the 718EV? He responded that they did not, as there has been little to any interest so far, and that he hoped interest would increase once firmer production dates were announced by PAG. I then inquired about the EV Macan? There, he had much higher hopes that sales would be acceptable, as the vehicle use was different from the 718. Yet he tempered his thoughts going back to the current Taycan sales issues.
My personal thoughts are that there will be some initial sales of the 718EV by folks who would like to try new things. Then the 718EV will die a quick death and Porsche will be thinking of bringing back the ICE 718, if they are not already.
I'm going to hold onto my 981 Cayman for awhile, and see if values increase once the 718EV comes to market.

If it's general to any/all EVs, government regulations, carbon emissions, etc...then join one of the many other EV general discussions elsewhere.
I mean we don't talk carbon emissions, planet warming, demise of fossil fuels regarding ICE 718s...same vein.

This is a 718 EV thread not a 718 EV technical thread. Scroll back to the first few pages of it and it's pretty much the same type of conversation today as it was then so seems on topic to me. No one really cares what hte specs of this thing are and people seem to be more interested in what the future of the platform is about and why it's like that and where it's going; fuels we'll be forced to or get to use, etc.
If you want to open a thread on specs and technical aspects only, feel free to do so. If you're saying we can only discuss technical aspects in this entire section well, you better start deleting all the threads people posted on their trips and journeys, their random pictures, and the random conversation threads that are only about non technical stuff like color choices and how much they enjoy their car.
P.S. this forum is full of carbon emission planet warming demise of fossil fuel discussions. It's sorta a thing directly related to the ICE 718 and people that own them, otherwise Porsche wouldn't be fist ramming this EV thing through R&D and production before the tech is ready. They also wouldn't of likely turboed it either.

All I’m asking for is relate it to the 718…no more no less.
If people want to speculate on EV generalities, then there are other RL forums to do that.

Do know the reason pointing out EV detriments is being redirected?
Because the guy who steps in each time to defend EVs realizes he is losing the argument
Your video is damning evidence of the danger of an EV accident

I had to read a lot of stats before I was ok with buying a EV because of videos like that.
It's very very rare to have a fire like that, but the thought of a random fire in the garage at like 2am which would block the exits (front door is by the garage, stairs are by the garage, sloped roof is above the garage, so we'd basically be jumping straights out the back window onto a solid deck) was a big hurdle to get over for me before buying a EV.
I also had to make sure my wife knew where the manual door releases were too because of videos like this:

Given:
718 is the enthusiast car
Panamara/cayenne/macan/taycan are the "status symbol" cars
911's are somewhere in between
Enthusiasts don't like electric cars
718 sales are not massive
992 sales are more profitable than 982 sales
I really think it will be a flop and it will be the last of the 98x cars. Porsche started development of this during the beginning of the EV hype train, but as supply chain realities are settling in and revealing EV's aren't the magic bullet they once were thought to be, the market is adjusting accordingly. I just don't see it. But maybe I'm wrong.

If it can't beat a $50K Tesla Model 3 Performance it will be a hard sell...see why Taycan's arent selling
A base Taycan is almost $100,000 and has a 0-60 in 5.1 seconds vs a Tesla M3P that is under $50K and has a 3.1 0-60, not to mention a much better infrastructure and software.
The Taycan is for people who have money and don't care about performance and care more for the interior or people who just want the prestige of a Porsche badge on the hood.
Porsche is going to have to step on the big brothers toes(911) if it expects to sell their first electric sports car, will they be brave enough to do so? If they do it right, it will absolutely embarass a 911

I mean why buy a GT4 when a C7 GS for half the price has better performance figures, better infrastructure, and software.
Why buy a Rolex when a Seiko has similar technical specifications and costs 90% less.
A Porsche isn't an appliance...

not true, I consider myself a car enthusiast and lucky enough to have several different cars and plenty of fun cars the last 20 years....I absolutely love my M3P and is by far the best daily driver I have ever owned....It literally is a four door rocket ship. Usually people who hate on EV's have never even driven one. The only reason the EV Cayman will flop is becuse of the price point.

That seems to be a pretty narrow focus; IMHO.

But when it comes to the Taycan, in particular, it is just a way for a Porsche-phile to "flex"
