This article is about the Macan, but we know from PAG’s press releases the approximate time between EV launches.

Since they both will ride on the PPE platform, expect 983 about a year later.

This is in line with PAG statements.

Not at first they didn't. The days the next generation would be a MY 2025 AND full electric.

I don't think I said that.

This was briefed at PAG's annual spring meeting and echoed since then.

It was the way your wrote it out that makes it sense like that's all Porsche had ever said.

I'm confused by this whole discussion and I'm not going to read back though all the pages.

So, the 982 will have overlap with the 983 or will there be an ICE version of the 983? Since the base Spyder and GT4 are out of production, will there be no Spyder / GT4 until at least 2025 when it is an EV or hybrid?

Small 982 production overlap with the 983. 983 is EV only.

If the 718 EV doesn't have the emotional part and we start comparing a 718 EV to a Tesla in terms of tech and range, it's over before it starts. If the 718 has the Taycan problems you described, it's not going to go well either. I really don't know who will buy this. I don't see overwhelming support around here to say the least. Tesla owners are not switching to a 2-seater sports car either. Maybe there is an untapped market somewhere.
I'm about a month into Tesla ownership and still in the honeymoon phase, but I can honestly say there are many reasons to pick a ICE cayman or EV cayman over a Tesla. Tesla still doesn't know how to build a car so the Porsche should appeal to people. The Tesla is great on smooth surfaces, but trim rattles, the suspension is not perfect, cabin noise is quite loud, and while it feels great in the city at like 70% of it's potential grip, on the limit it reminds you just how heavy it is. Fit and finish is pretty good for the body now (literally zero complaints with paint, panel gap, fitment, etc on the body), but I have a Chinese made one so perhaps China > USA. The electronics are also hit or miss. Mine randomly loses connection with my phone and can't reconnect. For the first 3 days of ownership my phone couldn't speak with it (even though it still worked fine as my 'key') after I left the dealership until it just randomly started working.

No Tesla is a sports car replacement for what Porsche did best so I see tons of reasons to pick a ICE cayman over a Tesla. All the Telsa really does good in respect to being a sports car is city driving and 0-60 times as far as being 'sporty'. Track days and canyon/mountain/back road runs a ICE Porsche is better.

I dont know who the heck is going to buy a EV Cayman either? Certainly not me and you hit the nail on the head is if there is no emotional part to the EV cayman it's over... but I guess if someone out there actually wanted a heavy sports car with one gear that's terrible for road trips, terrible for track (if you can even find a race track it's not banned at) and price is no object, Porsche should have that market cornered. It'll probably be a good cars and coffee car since it'll be built and thought out better, at least as long as Telsa is still struggling with learning how to build cars (which honestly probably wont be long before they fix thier issues judging by how much better my model 3 is than the first ones I saw or even the ones I saw 2 years ago).

Some updated info from PAG during RR7.

https://www.carscoops.com/2023/10/po...reunion-7/amp/

718 EV info near the end. Echoing what they’ve been saying for awhile. It’ll be here as a MY25.

If it will come out as a MY25, it won't be here until literally 2025. There's no way it's coming out in the next 13 months. I mean all articles still say all 2-door Porsches are made in Zuffenhausen. That's false lol.

More data, good insight into Zuff.

Makes sense why they moved 718s out of Zuff to allow for expansion.

I'd be a potential buyer for a BEV Cayman if the weight is kept down (under 3600 lbs) and price isn't crazy. I don't need or want crazy HP, and AWD electric Cayman would be a 365-day-a-year driver for me. Bought a Mini Cooper SE recently, and am in the camp that lack of NVH is actually welcome (noise ≠ emotion) and even a range as low as 250km wouldn't be problematic for me (my Mini has a 175 km range and is not remotely an issue). Given my Mini experience, a BEV vehicle can be every bit as engaging and fun to drive as its ICE counterpart, and I expect that will be the case with an electric Cayman or Boxster. Just like the "gotta be NA" and "has to be manual" crowd have never embraced the notion that a PDK-equipped 992 is a heckuva fine ride, the anti-EV legions will never embrace an electric sports car from Porsche.

At this point given the general lack of enthusiasm at Rennsport a couple months ago (in addition to lack of registered interest at dealers), I think this model is probably killed off after two years.

Based on their intention to keep weight low, the range will be an issue (particularly in the cold). I would be shocked if they don't start back-pedaling in year 1. Other than a few rich girls in LA and some influencers (because it's new) who buys this thing?

Well, the use of solid state batteries might change that all.
But the question is “What else?”, in a few years the choices are really limited
