I bought my CD mostly because of the MPG, range, torque and towing ability. If the "fix" loses any of those features, I'll be really unhappy.

I don't want a buy-back. I just want to keep my car as delivered. If I had to get another vehicle, what else has the ability to tow 7700 lbs, get 30 MPG on the highway and 600+ miles range on a tank, and still drive and handle like a Porsche?

You're kidding right? A 2-liter 4-cyl engine and a towing capacity of 5000 lbs? And a 13.2 gallon tank! With apparently worse MPG than the CD, and more expensive fuel to boot.

Lol. Yup. Kidding. But really, there are not that many choices. If you need towing and high mpg, you basically need a turbo diesel. In the class as the CD, I can only count 4: Range Rover, the BMW X5, the MB CLE, the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Otherwise you have to go into the light truck extended cabs. That's why we all ended with the CD

The diesel Jag F-pace might be an option. It looks better on paper than the ones you have listed but is a lesser version of the CD.

That's an interesting option. It would have been a direct competitor to the unicorn Macan diesel. If I choose going one size smaller, it may be a good option, provided I ignore reliability issues. Beats a BMW X3 diesel or MB CLC diesel. Thanks for mentioning it.

Now that we think a buyback is a possibility, are we going to spend any money on our cars? Are we going to buy tires, or try to eek out the last few miles on the old ones? Maybe buy off brands if they really need to be replaced. Will we have the motivation to take leather cleaner to the seats and wax it after a wash. Will the mechanical car wash still be used instead of the hand wash? WIll it still be parked in the empty part of the parking lot? Will we tell the service advisor, just do the bare minimum? I suppose we'll know more in 2 weeks.

ok I'll give you the rest but let's not push it too much. This thing feels and drives nothing like my 911s. Even though it does drive fantastic.

That's assuming that all Porsches are supposed to drive like a 911. Haha.

Someone mentioned a Gwagon a few posts back. I bought mine off a lease a few years back with a extended warranty; it's an 07'. And while the newer ones have a better interior and updated drivetrain it's basically unchanged underneath since the early 90's. Its built like a bank vault but it also drives like one and costs as much. You feel every bump, and the steering is vague at best. Plus over 75000 miles of ownership I'm averaging 12.1 mpg of mostly highway driving. When in philly or NYC in the summer with AC on I'm seeing 9 MPG. its severely flawed when not off road which is 99% of the time for most drivers. Don't get me wrong it's very cool and has been very reliable for me the but the Cayenne is 100% better on road and if optioned can do 60% of what a G can do off road if that's your thing. There's supposed to be a new G coming out for the first time in literally decades in 2018 same formula just updated and a bit wider. Now a updated diesel G wagon maybe could be a CD replacement.

Or a cayman, or a 944, or a boxster :-)

But as far as SUV go... by far the best driving. 2 minutes in one and I was sold vs. BMW, etc.

OK guys, assuming there is a buy back and the "fix" is terrible, what shall I get? Reading through the current available models, I am narrowing down to two diesels: Range Rover sports or BMW X5 with M package. Opinions? Hope I am not hijacking this thread.

I would get this if Porsche brought it to the US. I don't need to haul big items anymore, go off-road, or tow anything so this would be the long-run driver.

Traded my '07 Touareg V10 TDI that I had since new for a new '16 BMW X5d a few weeks back. So far I really like the X5. Haven't towed with it yet as I'm waiting for the hitch to be delivered. Had been waiting around for a while waiting to see if Cayenne diesel production would ever start up again but got tired of waiting.

If you'd like to get perspective from folks that actually own BMW X5d's, I'd visit: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=507 Probably one of the more active BMW F15 X5 forums I've found.
