Diesel Cayenne and VW emission issue

Ok I stopped by the dealer today for a free car wash - and popped into the service department to talk to the non-D-bag writer (nice guy). As I suspected, I was not on any "list" from my last visit to get in line for the software update. Good writer knew exactly what I was talking about, and told me, "I can get you in right now actually, if you have time to wait..."
So I tossed him the keys, went upstairs to the sales floor and grabbed a free Starbucks, chatted with the sales manager a bit, surfed the Twittersphere for a bit.... but it's done. Took them a little over an hour including a re-wash (plus interior vacuum.)
I've only driven the ~25 miles home but so far my impressions mirror Skiahh's. I noticed it starts downshifting as soon as I get on the brakes. It's definitely quicker to downshift when you tip into the throttle. It's definitely overall more responsive - whereas before, you'd get that "dead pedal" sensation when rolling into it - now it does something. Still some turbo lag but at least it's doing something. From a dead stop now, it reminds me of my 2014 - the converter doesn't instantly lock in 1st anymore (to where you'd get get lag-lag-lag-BOOST-shift.) Seems the converter stays open in 1st, so you get revs (and actually get MOVING!) and it grabs 2nd pretty quick and THEN the converter locks. By that time with the revs and load you've built some boost. Overall power delivery is a lot smoother.
I also noticed when rolling around the neighborhood, and rolling a no-stop corner, the torque converter unlocks in 3rd and you get revs now. Before it would just lug itself along at 1000rpm.
My guess is they changed a LOT in the calibration. Likely had a calibration engineer working on it this entire time and FINALLY came up with something, and basically buried these drivability changes under the guise of "transmission shudder". Probably raise a lot more eyebrows if they branded this fix how we seem to be experiencing it.
I'm going to keep my fingers crossed this doesn't "burn in" and revert to the previous behavior over time. I drive ~600 miles a week so I'll be paying close attention. But initial impressions - it's a big improvement. Anybody with a "fixed" CD - you want this update.

They've also got to look at a piece of defective trim where the chrome is starting to bubble underneath the RH side of the instrument cluster, so hopefully I can be on my merry way in minimal time.

Took about an hour and a half to reprogram ECU. The engine feels a little stronger off boost. Sport mode is definitely a lot more drivable than before. My biggest reason for the reprogramming was engine shutter. So far so good.
Got 33.1 mpg on my way back home (55 miles). The highest I have seen on that road was 32.8, but usually I see around 30-31. Interesting if the new mileage can be replicated.

286 miles driven. Fuel consumption certainly decreased. 3 days in a row I see: 33.1, 32.8, 33.6mpg, same road, approximately same time. Remaining fuel is good for another 443miles - 729 total, I've never seen such a high number before. Usually it's around 660miles on a full tank. No engine shutter observed.

I finally took my 2014 Cayenne Diesel to the dealership for the emissions modification fix which is required in California and has to be completed by April 2020. The dealer completed the emissions modification and the ABK6 campaign. I picked up the vehicle this morning. My Cayenne is a weekend vehicle and I only have 16K miles on it.
When I first started the vehicle, the engine sounded slightly louder. It was 54 degrees outside when I started the car. It went away after about 5 minutes of driving and the engine sounded like it did before the fix. I drove the vehicle for about 90 minutes and the vehicle appeared to drive just like it did before the fix. I did not notice an increase or decrease in gas mileage.
There is still a slight 1 second turbo lag delay, but it was like that before the fix. The 2019 Macan loaner I was given while the repair was completed had the same 1 second turbo lag delay. Overall, I have no concerns or complaints about the modification.
The Macan is a nice car and had a bigger navigation screen which I liked, but the ride was harsh and jarring compared to my Cayenne. I could feel every bump and ripple in the road. My Cayenne has air suspension and I drive it normal height and comfort mode and the ride is much nicer.
I will post more information if anything changes, but am happy for now.

I brought my ‘14 into the dealership for the fix. They said they were going to update the software per the latest campaign. Can someone remind me what I am supposed to get for freebies.
1. Fill up the gas tank
2. Wash the car
i feel like I recall the following from reading this thread, but perhaps I’m mistaken:
- free detail of the car?
- ad blue fill up?
- oil change?

That was for the initial “fix” as dictated by the diesel gate court settlement. This current software update is simply a voluntary recall to “fine tune” the original fix . The recall is free nothing else as I have read in the letter

sorry, I wasn’t very clear. I’m getting the emissions fix AND they are applying the recalll. So my question is, what freebies are there for the original emissions fix?
