maybe for BMWs but surely not for these rarified Porsches! Unless driving 1000 miles a year is considered “driving”.

I do appreciate the input and hopefully you're wrong and I'm right ;-). Only one way to find out ... wait and see. Luckily, this isn't a must have for me and I'm willing to roll the dice on eventually paying more (or less, hopefully) later down the road, or having to move on to a 991.2 GT3 instead. Good talk!
All good. I would be waiting too, to see if things settle down, and maybe more supply hits the markets later this year.
... Oh, and I was certainly not inferring that a $130k offer is a "low ball" in general terms,... but only rather to THAT particular seller who is asking $150k, then to him $20k might be considered (by him) as a low ball. But heck,... like I said, even if he negotiates & a buyer settles on $140k,.. that would still move the needle a bit for these 997.2 GT3's.
yes, I agree, good conversation (& speculation)...
we shall see.

Sad, this sentiment, shared by many now as speculators is pathetic. Cars should be used.

There are currently 10 active want-to-buy ads in the RL marketplace for various versions of the 997 GT3. There is 1 listed for sale. Clearly, the supply/demand curve is favoring sellers at the moment and as long as that remains the case, prices will stay elevated or continue to rise. Keep in mind that we are dealing with an extremely small and illiquid market. If these 10 buyers find their cars, or move on to a different search, it will only take a handful of GT3s hitting the market to flip supply/demand and start driving prices back down. Will this happen? I don't think anyone knows for sure but I do think a significant reversal is very unlikely simply due to the fact that the supply side is static. There are only "X" number of clean 997 GT3s left. That number will never increase, it will only continue to decline as cars get used up, are damaged, or get locked away in private collections. So, having eliminated the chance of any material increase in supply (assuming the ratio of cars for sale remain proportional to cars in existence), we are left with only a drop in demand as the catalyst for a potential future decrease in prices. I'll let you guys speculate as to whether or not the 997 will become less desirable over time. If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on; NOT.

From my perspective, owners that don't pile miles on their cars are not necessarily speculators. People buy cars for different reasons. I'm on my third 997 GT3 (a RS) and have never driven any of them more than 1000 miles/year. Same goes for other sports cars and 911s that I have and have had. Why? I drive what I want when I want, depending on the circumstances of the drive (and we have winter here). I may be an irrational enthusiast, but I am not a speculator. I have them, because they make me happy to own, to maintain, to look at, and to drive. I do think its cool that others are giving these cars the attention that they deserve--they are, after all, one of the best.

Its too easy to judge others... I live in NYC and only put on a couple K a year and nearly every time I do drive its for B-Road fun, does that make me a speculator? I would gladly drive more if I could.

Same here, I have already put 600 miles on the car this year which is a lot to do before May here in Buffalo. Got to wait until all the salt is long gone off the roads before i drive it. Not to mention that I woke up to 5" of fresh snow this morning haha.

I put 1000miles per year on my 6gt3 and 5k/yr on my Boxsters, all back-roads. 1-2k miles/yr is pretty standard for a GT3/RS especially if winters are off. They're like single malt scotch, sipped sparingly for special squirts of adrenaline, sweaty-palms goodness, and an attack on all senses. Boxsters are more like a good red wine.

I agree with hf1; 1-2k a year seems like a good number. That is roughly 80-170 a month. Take into account no driving for certain people that live in cold/snow states, Maybe that number is more like 300 a month (during the spring, summer and maybe fall seasons). That could be 3 or 4 solid drives a month. When you think about it deeper, that does not sound like a garage queen imo.

Who are you guys saving your GT3's for?
I'm putting 5k-6k/yr. I do not drive it when there's salt out which is 2-3 months/yr.
But I am also never selling.

Knowing me I will probably end up driving one 3-5k miles a year. I love driving. Would probably even drive it in the winter on some of those CO days where it is 50-60 degrees out.
