For all the people who wax on about the superior shifting of the Honda S2000 or Miata but are cursed to be driving the lowly 911 rejoice. For the Numeric shifter, in my opinion, outshines the S2000 and is the match of the NA Miata. Before all the S2000 fanboys pile on, understand that I’ve owned all of the aforementioned cars and write this with a somewhat clouded memory. True be told, most of my S2000 memories were of plastic trim chirping and the worst rear brake bias on any street legal car.
The install was about two hours and there are several YouTube and Rennlist articles to review prior. The three takeaways from the instal were as follows; 1. Remove the center cap from your stock shifter with a razor knife and remove the two small T10 screws. After pry off the aft aluminum/plastic trim that laminated the **** to the shifter fork. Attempts to pull the shifter **** up or cut away elastomer are futile when you see what Stuttgart had in mind.
2. Mark the position of the shifter cables to a reference so that you will have a gross guide to help make an easy adjustment to fine shifting feel. In other words if it’s good where you found it return the cables to that length. The numeric has a fore/aft adjustment on the reward cable guides and you can reinstall at the same location on the cable ends sprung fitting. You will reuse the OEM cable fittings on the new shifter.
3. Felt tape the back of trim pieces prior to reinstall. My car has its share of chirps and squeaks. Especially around the forward top trim piece of the center console.
FYI Many YouTube videos don’t show removing the top forward trim piece that wraps around the center radio stack. They struggle to remove two screws forward of the shifter. Several even comment how bad of a design this is from Porsche. We all know Porsche is without fault, at least in this case, and they are knuckle dragging ex Z350 fans and should be removed from the interwebs at Bill Gates nearest convenience.
Hope this helps other pointlessly spend their Covid money that most here never got.
I’ve never tried the numeric stuff but I have the Function First shift right and cable ends and agree with what you said although it has been a long time for me since I drove the S2000 and Miata. In fact I also really enjoyed my 93 Mustang 5.0 with the Steeda Tri Ax shifter and still think the Porsche with with those couple of upgrades is the better of the 4
Recovered steering wheel arrived today from Dallas Custom Steering Wheel. Looked at upgrading to a newer wheel but decided I wanted to keep the original. Before and after pictures.
Started with a smoke test to see if I had any vacuum leaks ( I wasn't showing any signs but my friend had it at his shop and i wanted to see how it works) No leaks but I did find out how much smoke the machine produces! Could be a fun tool...
Then I moved on to changing the spark plugs. Last time was 2012. (So basically changed because of time) Not sure if I even needed to do them as they came right out with no fuss.
Lastly I put on new spacers from Adaptec (10/20mm) and some Acer titanium lug bolts.
Poor man’s smoke test: find a vacuum line and blow cigar smoke into it. I successfully found a vacuum leak in my Mercedes E500 using that method. Of course, Cuban cigars work best.

Spring can't happen soon enough.
Nice work. A couple things.
You should clean the accumulated gunk inside the throttle body where the plate closes to the wall and on the plate itself.
Love that Champion F77 airbox - so wish that would fit into my car along with the supercharger, but it won't.
Your rear brake rotors have cracks in them and should be replaced, especially the one where the crack goes from the outer hole toward the edge. If another one form and connects to that same hole, the chunk of rotor that comes loose can get lodged and lock-up the wheel.

Throttle body (and anything else I could see) was cleaned before assembly.
The airbox is a great design for getting fresh air to the engine without heat soak; and the sound is something else! I will be rerouting the MAF as I think it’s just a little too tight behind the right snorkel.
What you are seeing on the rotors are not cracks but outlines of the rear brake pads! I wish they were cracked so I could have an excuse to upgrade....

Put the QuickJack to work and replaced the Carrera S II wheels with gloss black 991.2 C4 wheels purchased from a RLer (thanks Alex). The rears are really aggressive, 19 x 11.5 ET56, which translates to a 17 mm spacer from the stock 67 mm offset on the 11” wide wheels. I don’t typically like black wheels on a darker colour car, but I’m really happy with the results. Love the stance with the SPASM, but it could stand to be 10 mm lower. 10 mm isn’t worth doing anything about. I decided that the tailpipes need to match the wheels so they’re in getting ceramic coated.
disclaimer in case someone notices: the crests have been lined up with the valve stems
hey mujeriega,
how was the door handle work? - i just bought an 05 997 and the manual door lock doesnt seem to be attached to any thing behind it, just spins 90 degrees each direction. Is that the same issue you were having? If so, any tips before i tear into this door?
Used the mount below to swap out the magnets on the Rennline phone mount to be able to use MagSafe instead.
I haven’t found a car charger that’s 9V 2.2 amp which is what’s needed to get the full 15W charge from MagSafe so I’m guessing I’m closer to the 7.5W charge right now.
There’s a Scosche charger on the way which I believe will carry the picky specs Apple wants to give you the full speed.
Bovee bluetooth adapter is on the way so it’ll be a nice clean setup once it’s all done.
A black MagSafe charger would of been cleaner but there isn’t any MFi certified ones just yet so the ones that are out there are just Qi chargers.
