I took my cluster out a few years ago to clean all the lenses and I scratched the **** out of the steering column shroud plastics. Today I repainted them and the inner door sills.
My first wrenching on the car! I changed a brake bulb in the time it took to heat up nacho's in the toaster oven.
I'm sure all the maintenance on 997's is that easy, right?!
You wouldn't be joking if it was the fixed 3rd brake light. Much, much more time consuming and requires some absurd backseat gymnastics (not the good kind) to get it done.
Installing the Function First Shift Right kit into the OEM SSK. Unfortunately, got stuck on getting the snap rings into place, so ordered a snap ring plier and will pick it up in the morning.

turned out great!
They look amazing! Can I ask how to prepped them and what kind of paint did you use?

I scrapped all of the old rubber coating with a credit card, cut it in half with a really sharp blade and used the cut edge to scrap as its fresh and works great. Hit it with simple green and let it soak in and then wiped with a red rag a few times to get all the residuals off. Cleaned with dawn soap and water and then gave it about 4 coats of this Rust-Oleum Custom Matte Black Lacquer Spray Paint- they had it at autozone. I masked off the little microphone (I am guessing) vents on top of the steering wheel surround.
Take your time taking off the surround, there are a few wires that need unclipped and push out of their holder but its an easy job.

I recently did that, too. Not hard, but yeah, better get some yoga practice in before. Did it in an hour I guess, just taking my time.
Changed out the brake fluid, Motul RBF600, at 2 years and two months here in deep East Texas. I bought a probe to test the water amount in the fluid and it was at 3%. Going to change the fluid more often going forward. One of these is not like the other. Crazy how dark it gets.
I just replaced my climate controls with the MaCarbons- they came out great and thanks to the video (the one with the guy with the tweezer method if you google it)
rstl5009: that looks great. How are hard was it to get the sills out -do they just pop off ? Anyone know how to take the pieces off by the door handle and window switches, that is, do you have to take off the whole door panel off or will they pop off. I will be on a refinishing campaign for all those crappy rubberized pieces that are showing more and more scratches, including the center console
I put new fuel injectors in and what a PITA. The passenger side was a more difficult than the driver side (after removing the coolant tank).. pulling the tank was well worth it 100%! With the tank in place I could barely get a h d in. With the tank out I can get both arms fully in the cavity.
Lol! Your removed the coolant tank to do the injectors..... the injectors on a 997.1 are tedious but a relatively Easy job. I’ve done it without even lowering the motor!
Installed a Numeric shifter in place of the stock shifter. Very mechanical and precise, and got rid of the annoying plasticky sounds when shifting. It's a shame it's covered by the center console, it's like an engineering work of art.
