Previous owner was kind enough to send me the factory sub and brackets that were left behind. Tore the frunk apart looking for where the wires were for factory amp only to find they were already wired to the aftermarket mono amp. For small speakers I think the added bass is noticeable.



New wheels from last week tire swap.

If you want a really quick street car and want as much power down low as possible, K16s would probably be a great choice even if you have to neuter some of their low range power to protect the engine. this is hat concerns me the most..the rods. in all honesty the car is really fast stock, its just the throttle response off idle doesnt seem clean but im also comparing it to my GSR integra with a 9 lb flywheel. the tip feels good in 1st gear but starting from second is altitle mushy and even coming out of turns

yes, this is a street car..it might see a track day or two but its primarly driven on the street. i am concerned about bending rods as id like it to have a more crisp response down low but am not sure if this is possible with the tiptronic.

how would you say off idle response is in 2nd gear? are you concerned w/ your rods bending?

Not that I can add much to this conversation but the tippy transmission is the adaptive learning type. The more your pound on it the more responsive it gets. After a week of pounding on mine it after warm up one kickdown was all it took to have it hold 1st on the decel and start in 1st. Rear tires usually break away from a stoplight then the fronts join.
Then after a week of normal driving it's back to its lazy old man Benz shift.
IMHO you could look to modifying the shift points. I think Legit Street Cars got a tune for his W211 E55 transmission which is based on the unit in our car.
I've been asked several times to sell my tippy. Then after driving a manual in 2 hour traffic I remember why I wont sell it.

i actually really like the tip, i just wish it held gears alittle longer and was a bit more responsive off the line. after i take care of some of the maintenance items im going to inspect/replace the transmission mount and do solid motor mounts as well.

i looked his vids awhile ago..i believe all he did was change the valve body. i do want to do the IPT performance valve body upgrade eventually. wonder if anyone has done the blue top solenoid mods on these transmissions?

I'm still considering a Tippy to do a Safari conversion so I can drive it in Edmonton the other 6 months of the year...put some nice studded tires (or just really good winters) on it and hoon and have a great time.

However, since I'm currently at 5 cars and 2 garage spaces at my current place, I need a barn first....So @kamlung if you still have those in a few years, I'll hit you up

I drove a 997TT Tippy and it was quick.

I'm pretty sure the factory Bose amp+subwoofer has no LPF whatsoever, which causes the horrible boominess.

I think an aftermarket sub amp w/ LPF applied is probably the biggest upgrade you can do to the factory audio system.

I am not sure if the OEM sub box still has the factory amp inside but it sounds pretty good to me. There is a mono Alpine amp driving the subs now with LPF set at around 50 hz or so. I have the gain turned up to about 40%. I would not say it's boomy. Base is somewhat tight, about what you'd expect from 5 1/4" subs or whatever is in there. I may upgrade the speakers in the future but in no hurry. Just glad to have the new head unit in and everything working now.
