Yes it was with SCDA. You should join us if you're in the area.
Yes, it was my Tiptronic car.... however I manual swapped the car last summer so it is no longer Tiptronic.

I have not noticed any difference in NVH.

I have never been asked about coolant pipes although mine are welded.

Correct. For a stock block Mezger, you really wanna stick with a larger frame turbo which will have a softer low end and thus be easier on the rods. Pretty much all bent rods on these engines are a result of small K16 billet turbos or similar.

ive read a few of your posts and your conclusion is that the billet k16s are kind of a waste because all the extra torque has to be de-tuned away in the boost maps and the turbo runs out of steam on top

does this apply to tiptronic cars too? my car is bone stock and i like the power it makes but the bottom end throttle response off idle is kind of..lacking so to speak. i am hoping that a mafless tune + billet k16s and an exhaust would wake it up but maybe i dont need the billets at all?

you should reach out to @tom__w ... he has a tip x50 car which he put billet k16s on with a kline exhaust and Sam's Cobb tune... and it pulls like a freight train...

Like so many other things that might get modified for performance gains, it all depends on what your goals and use case is. If you want a really quick street car and want as much power down low as possible, K16s would probably be a great choice even if you have to neuter some of their low range power to protect the engine. I can imagine them being a great choice for someone who does a lot of autocross too where you need boost as quickly as possible.

Someone else can chime in on the tiptronic part, but if I recall correctly K16s billets are a great match for those because of the nature of an automatic transmission giving all that torque somewhere to go besides the rods.

I would imagine a tiptronic car is a street car where K16 would be more appropriate for the tiptronic shift points which are generally lower in the rpm range.

Yes, it pulls nicely. It already came with a nice Kline exhaust when I got it. I also replaced every mount, line and gasket when I had the engine out for coolant line welding.

The build included bigger intercoolers, 1300cc injectors, IPD plenum, 997 throttle body and billet k16s (I still have the stock K24s). And of course a MAFless Cob tune from Sam. I have not dynoed it but it should be in the 650-700 hp range.

With the tippy, it works well. Even with the nanny, i can break the tires free at 30 mph.

Not sure I would change anything else without going to forged internals.

I felt bad considering this came as a genuine X50 ... but it is my car and I'll do what makes me happy. After all, i still get the other X50 benefits, which I beleive included a more hardened transmission and better oil pump.

I have all the original parts so I can go back to 'stock' if I want to, though i see myself using this as my coffin. Lol

Makes me want to get a Tiptronic when I have the room, @2fcknfst ...
