I think an LSD would help in the squirrely department; when mine went into the 6 speed, the back end immediately felt more planted. I'm still mulling over if I am going to do this, or, at least try it out until I can find the time to graft on a 991.1 front diff and controller. I am very curious to see the difference in mileage with the removal of the awd system and its parasitic driveline losses.
I thought about an LSD, but that would ruin the fun. Who wants lay 11's at the stoplight? A bit of side to side jiggle makes life more fun.

The same guy I know who has the 996GT2 bought a 991 turbo. Pulled over 3 times in the first year not for speeding but appears to be speeding.
Older cars can fly under the radar to much greater extent than the fancy new.
The highest speeds I've ever done were in my 930 and B5 RS4. Cops waved the 996tt though speed traps but crucified Lamborghinis, Ferrari and McLarens.
I sat in a 991 and 992 the cabins feel smaller than the 996 even though the bodies look twice as large.
It was not very difficult and extremely expensive because the used manual gearbox I got needed to be completely rebuilt.
I don't seem to get along with auto boxes very well. The 996 would slip in 2nd gear enough to trigger fault codes. Now my Cayenne is slamming upshifts between 2-3-4, a common fault with the Lexus 09D transmission that needs a new valve body to fix. Ah well it's OK, I guess I like these old clunkers better than anything I could possibly get for the same price new.
I seriously considered manual swapping my tippy, but this and other forums opined I shouldn't because of the expense. So I bought a black manual and converted it to RWD only.
Very happy with the results. The car is squirrelly and scratches that itch.
The tippy is a GT and Guided Missile on H&R lowering springs and GT2 alignment specs. I must get up to aircraft rotation speed to feel any excitement.
Sweaty palms and butt clenching is a tip of the right foot away, anywhere any time in the RWD manual. The twin psssfff of the diverter valves help too.
Yes, an Aisin AW TR-60SN/09D. Porsche doesn't make transmissions. They would have been better served to continue with Mercedes automatics though.
I don't know why I thought they were ZF 8 speeds, but yea, Aisin it is. Those benz trans shift very nice too, but the cayenne in sport mode is like a PDK with the rev matching and shift speed. It's really nice to drive, I get a kick out of it.

It makes the Bose speakers sound 10X better, I can stream music, I can use a USB Drive or Micro SD card to access music and Android Auto!!!!

The 958's have the 8 speed boxes. I have a 955 and the 957 also has the Aisin automatic.
