....today started first attempt to replace the turbos.
However....
Suction lines are seized so tight that I would rip off the lines before they would disconnect from the Oil catch tank.
Plan B: disconnect the whole catch tank from the Turbos without removing the suction lines.
However....
Bolts fixing the catch tank to the Turbo are heavily corroded 8mm allen key. Allen key did not get enough grip so they are both round now.
Plan C: Using my brand new left extractor getting bolts out.
However....
Used my clampimg jaw to turn the extractor into the bolt until it broke with a big bang. Note to myself: buy a heavy duty clamping jaw next time
Used the big adjustable wrench to apply more power until the bolt broke loose.
Now looking for some plaster for little injuries occured during procedure
My worst nightmares are made of stuff like this - sorry about that.
Made a couple videos today for Inconel, here is running it through the tunnel south of town.
Lady friend was in the car and didn't scream and hit me until I stopped recording, so the quality is a bit better than the last time I attempted this....
And here is another one running at a constant speed - I personally think the tone inside the car is quite pleasant, and not particularly overwhelming, but then again, my ears are not the greatest.
Did the following (not all today but all recently):
New Bilstein PSS10 kit (front and rear) w/new top strut mounts(front), New rear transmission mount (superseded to 997 mount), alignment, driveshaft coupler/joint (cracked), brake caliper detail and baby got a new pair of shoes! CCW forged 9x18 (-50 offset) and 12x18 (-51 offset + 7mm Elephant Racing spacers) wheels with Falken Azenis 245/40ZR and 315/30ZR tires respectfully. Have not fully done the math of ride height but believe it to be in between EURO 996TT and 996 GT2 ride height. Here are some before, during and after pics. I'm biased but I think it is just about perfect.

That looks good; it's interesting to note the design difference between your pss10 and my 9s... Just wish I didn't have to wait 60-90 days for spring perches.
I have the 9's on a Boxster and love them. After the PSS10 rear install I noticed a huge difference in ride but could hear a whine (transmission mount). I feel like the controlled firmness the perches add really helped.
... when refurbishing the Wifes car, I replaced the worn rubber bushes in the Transmission Mount by performance ones.
The increase in stability comes with an increase of gearbox noise transferred to the chassis. Wife did not like that so I converted back to original.
If someone is interested in a performance mount ....
Bilstein has very specific directions on how much you can lower the car. Did you take a look at that? Max lowering with them on mine was ~3/4" lower than stock.... GT2 height with them is lower than what Bilstein wants you to set them at
They have been a smidge higher than gt2 height since installed, a 1/10", if memory serves.
Porsche Vancouver set the height when they went on eight years ago, but looking at the perch, it does appear to be a fatigue failure, I have never noticed them bottoming out, or felt they were out range.

@996dougie what kind of noise were you noticing? Gear whine, or rattle?

Reason: tag OP
@996dougie: I had purchased the a new mount with performance inserts anticipating the fact that many of the bushings on the car (2002) are 20+ years old and need replacing. I had just finished installing the rear shocks and spacers and was dying to see these new to me wheels/tires looked on the car....but you cant really tell while on a lift... so I set her back on the ground.....ok....need to drive around the block (or a couple of miles to one of my favorite off ramps....) to settle suspension then I'll see the rear height. During that drive is when I first heard any sort of whining and was definitely drive train related. Turned out the trans mount (installed by PO) was a performance mount similar to the one I had recently purchased...So I decided to go back to stock.
@docwyte: I used Bilstein's recommended heights. Here is a picture taken after the ride mentioned above, before the fronts were installed: Before stuts
