What did you do to your 996TT today?
What's the master plan? Did you ever buy an engine?

The car that got bent in downtown Vancouver awhile back did not come into the auction block, so we suspect that because the driver was intoxicated, he neglected to make a claim, keeping the car.
I very much want to build one, but until oil and gas improves dramatically in Canada, I will have to settle for the 980s at the moment.

Went yesterday to Thompson Speedway for the 2nd track day of the year. I finally convinced my buddy Brian to bring his Shelby GT350 out. I was hoping for an 8200 RPM 4th gear fly-by, he was shortshifting at 7000 because the car only has 2800 miles on it. It does sound glorious, a 5.2L, 8200 RPM, flat-plane V8. Brian reported coolant, oil, transmission, and rear axle temps were only 10-15 degrees higher than regular street driving. It looks like Ford had a good design for this car, too bad it's out of production.
Something let go in my right rear suspension with much clunking and banging. I suspect either the 996 Cup strut mount or the spherical bearing on the bottom of the shock.

Pretty sure ford discontinued that motor cause the harmonics of the oil filter were causing engines to blow up as the filter flew off.

Updated versions of that motor includes a blower, both in car, and, truck form.

Friend of mine drove my 996TT today and had nothing but smiles on his face. He couldn't believe how smooth, planted, and controlled the entire experience was (Markski tune @ around 500 whp/wtq).
He's just waiting on his Camaro Zl1 Order - 6.2L supercharged monster. I'm interested to see how they compare, side by side, since he has 650 crank hp/tq (I think mine's about 600 at the crank). Looks like the ZL1 is about 4000 pounds vs 3300 pounds for the Turbo. 0.175hp/lb on the Turbo, 0.1625 hp/lb on the ZL1...both six speed manual.
I'm getting excited to compare, back to back!

Before I bought that black 6TT I considered a GT350. I was scared off by the potential engine problems and got another 6TT instead.
All the GT350's are manuals, the GT500's are all autos.
I think the boosted engines are different, they aren't the flat plane Voodoo engine.
There were problems with the powdered metal oil pump gears, worn valve guides etc. Supposedly all fixed. Ford replaced a lot of engines under warranty no questions asked; one track guy I know well had 4 engines changed under warranty. This car has all the fixes. I can't speak to the reliability.

Yes, most just used a safety wire on the oil filter to prevent it from walking off. Great sounding motors.

Friend of mine was considering a GT350 - didn't know about the engine troubles...I'll tell him. I'm trying to get him to buy a Lotus Emira....

Last time I was in LA, I drove to Santa Barbara and took a puddle jumper from there to one of the smaller airports for exactly the same reason as noted above.
Not good times.
