My local parts guy just got back to me, cannot get the shafts.
So, removing the shafts would be straight forward as they are fixing the mounts, then, I assume, the front diff and shaft comes out pretty easy.
Should also shed about 100lbs or so...
Do the uprights, with the shafts removed, need any attention?
Ridiculously inexpensive replacement axle assemblies... I hate taking apart CV joints to replace boots. Messy PITA job. I'd be tempted to give these a try. At a minimum, they would make great donors to harvest the outer spindle assembly for a RWD conversion instead of spending $900 on rennline spindles.
I bought a pair of "bad" axles off eBay, then took them apart to scavenge the outer stub axles from them. $400 and I've got OEM parts for when/if I decide to do a rwd conversion on my car. So you can either do that to your current axles, or try and do what I did.
Contact Bilstein about the parts you need for the PSS9's, I've found them very good to deal with in the past.
Thanks, I am thinking about Paul's comments above - how difficult was it to remove the outer spindle?

$119 in Canada, so I've ordered two of them - have to figure out how to separate them now...
On the OEM front axles there is an external circlip that needs to be expanded to release the splined connection. It is quite messy with all the grease but doable.

At this price, am thinking about putting them on the metal bandsaw and just chopping off the spindle, then cleaning it up.
Engine has been back in the car for a little over a week.. met with fabricator today for one-off exhaust setup and to chat about Y-pipe options. I was able to make a 997 Y pipe fit with the different throttle placement on the GT3 intake manifold and rotating the silicone couplers that connect the intercoolers to the Y pipe, but there isn't much room for the airbox. Going to do some more test fitting and measuring this weekend with everything and see if I can get something in there.

There are a couple of other threads on how to separate the spindle... Put it in a vise, flex the universal all the way to one angle, open the circlip, and whack it with a hammer.
As far as weight, this thread on 6speed shows the before/after if the spindle gets machined down... Seems fairly trivial in comparison to removing the front diff and three drive shafts.

Still a little bit to go before that. I think I've sorted out all of the mechanical side of things that I could do without having a fabricator (I can weld, but I don't really trust myself to do the exhaust, Y-pipe/intake piping, etc), granted there wasn't a ton that Cervelli left for me to do on my own but there was still some stuff I had to sort out since he didn't have the car there, plus some updates I wanted to do while the engine was out.
I have a decent sized wiring job ahead of me to bridge the custom engine harness and the Motec to the OEM chassis harness/Motec dash. I've got everything for the harness routed to where it needs to be from the engine and into the cabin, just need to get in there and do my part.
The list is steadily shrinking though, I just don't have enough hours in the day/days in the week to do it all in one marathon. I can probably knock out the wiring in a weekend or couple of days but haven't really been pushing myself to do it since I'm waiting on raw materials for the fabricator now.
So, got the car back from the starter install, waiting on the other parts to come in, then it'll go back.
Of course, when I went to get it, the battery was flat - I have put it on the charger, but it started once I got back to the office.
My thinking is that whatever was going on with the starter was enough to kill it yesterday, and they didn't really drive it enough to get a charge into it.
