If you don't like the red plastic piece on your key you can just slide it off. The OEM keys do not come with the plastic piece installed.
Porsche provided two keys with remote controls (plus a valet key) and each remote key can be assigned an individual seat and door mirror position. The stored seat and mirror position is set automatically when the car is unlocked using the corresponding remote control. Each different key can be identified by sliding on one of the colored plastic pieces (red in your case.)

I am extraordinarily impressed that you have retained those two little bits of plastic for the last 20 years. I tend to do the same thing; I have the tag that was supplied with my VW keys listing the key numbers that I was handed by the dealer in 1993.
Got the parts from pelican. That means I’ll be ready to schedule with my mechanic. I read this from JPM this morning. A newer turbo, carbon fiber mats porsche option $1700. 996 . Love the rear end of the turbo. Cheap as hell $2.50 drafts. I need to buy another car. Oil special with Tax $42. You get the oil filter and a $15 Gift card pretty cheap. What can I say, my beverage carrier container.
