I still need to get a gray display filter, I haven't been able to find one.

Oil Temp gauge looks great Aaron! You will be super happy with Kevins tune, I did not see his new setup but that looks like another thing to add to the list!

Tunes and slave cylinders/clutches seem to be constant issues for a good numbers of owners.

I've never had an issue with my tune. I've had an EPL, UMW, and Markski tune, and all have been good. Level of support definitely varies among them. I think people get in trouble more with mods to the hardware. Not that OEM is invincible or superior to aftermarket stuff, but I think incorrect installation is a key mode of failure. Also, tunes will place more stress on OEM or aftermarket components, and that's another reason why things seem to break more on modded cars.

My $0.02, Kevin’s tune on my car has been 100% trouble free Since I got it 2 years ago. Great power and the data logging is very easy.

I really wish Porsche had added an oil temp readout into the MFA. For the life of me I don't understand why they didn't, especially given that many other much older VW/Audi's had one in that display since the late '80's...

That's why I added it. I have oil temp in the MFA of my Corrado... which has an engine worth $300. I had oil temp in my Archer and my Mooney. Why no oil temp in the 996? All the aircooled cars have it, and the 997 and newer cars have oil temp instead of (useless) battery voltage. We got left out!

I think there is an oil temp gauge on the GT models.

What is Porsche's specification regarding the proper oil temperature operating range for a 996 Turbo?

I believe PowderHound has a thread on it - I recall reading some logged numbers he had on before and after an oil cooler addition.

I would think that if one is going to reference an oil temperature display in a 996 Turbo then knowing what Porsche specifies as the normal oil temperature operating range would be helpful.

You will never run into any oil temp issues on a street use TT/GT2/3. Probably why Porsche skipped the gauge. You can run into high oil temp issues on heavily tracked turbocharged Mezgers as the stock oil cooling capacity does come up short. Keeping oil below 260F is a good rule of thumb. Normally aspirated Mezgers have no issues in this department..

Dock, yes - it would be absolutely helpful.

PH, I think it would be a very great challenge to get oil temp to 260 on the street; I see a range of about 180 to 220ish between gas and diesel - the diesels all being lower as they have external coolers attached to them.
