These cars are surprisingly heavy considering their size and relative simplicity.

Don't forget to replace your sunroof with a slick top. That saves nearly 50 pounds off the top and it's (somewhat) inexpensive.

I'll admit, I've been on a bit of a honeymoon phase with the new 991 Turbo S and haven't driven the 996 Turbo much lately..

Wow, I forgot how good this car is!

A tune, titanium exhaust, clutch and shift lever and it just fires all the right neurons....

Just for comparison and to make you feel a little better, the 991 Turbo S, more or less stock (cat eliminators), with me and all my track crap in the car (-280?) and a full tank of gas (-112?)

why bother with the cat eliminators? No power gain there

It quickly fixes the totally anemic sound of the stock 991 Turbo at a reasonable price... Just about perfect with a bit of volume increase and plenty of pop and burble in sport mode.

Plus the 991 Turbo exhaust post-cat is actually pretty non-restrictive, so I think there would be notable power gain if/when a tune is added. Unlike the 996 Turbo, the 991 Turbo cats are separate components... You can change the exhaust without changing the cats, change the cats (or bypass) without changing the exhaust, or swap both.

Yeah, she kicks *** in the canyons but is no lightweight... Call it 3,600 with a full tank but without me and a bunch of track equipment in the car (helmet, tools, air pump, gauges, clothes, etc), maybe a bit less.

So, 300-ish more than the 996. Funny, you don't really feel it.

You would feel it on most race tracks or in high speed collision avoidance situation.

My 996 Turbo weighted 3440 pounds, measured on a four pad racing scale (full tank of gas, spare/tool kit, stock wheels and tires sizes, no occupants.) The car has a LWFW and sunroof delete.

What I meant was that the high tech wizardry, 4WS, PDK, active engine mounts, etc. etc., does not make the weight (or girth for that matter) all that obvious at 6 - 8/10ths. You do notice it driving in tight conditions though, very much so.

It is most certainly the fastest, off the showroom floor car, I have ever driven, but what makes it really impressive is that it can do it over and over again without complaint, a testament to the amount of evolutionary engineering that has gone into it.

But...

It does not have the 'feel' of the 996, you can't 'row the gears', you know if you point it in a direction, it goes that way with little drama, whereas you can make the 996 scramble easily - and everyone wants to do a few chewies every once and awhile...

Analog versus digital, if you will. I find 'analog' more satisfying than 'digital'.

So, say, 150lbs for fuel? That's pretty good.

Negative. Saves right at well documented 27lbs....
