Can I go back to my question about tires flat spotting due to lack of driving and ask a second question? For those of you who don’t put on a lot of miles, have you found a tire that doesn’t flat spot too terribly? I had Pirellis but after a few thousand miles they were way too loud, so I tried the Hankook Evos and while the tires ride fine for how I drive the flat spotting is pretty bad. Will all “softer” performance tires have the same problem?

Sorry to interrupt the debate about education levels and reading comprehension. 😜

I do one of two things - 1) I block the car knowing it will not be driven for a period, or 2), I drive it around the block once a month.

I have never had a problem with flat spotting.

I've never had a single occurrence of flat spotting with my Michelin PS2s.

Park the car with the four tires resting on heavy/thick door mats, preferably made from some type of rubber. The tires will not flat spot.

I park on a square of rubber mat to help with flat spots on the tires. I use the gym-style ones made of ground up rubber that’s maybe 1/2 or 3/4 inch thick.

It’s not perfect but definitely helps. My tires will flat spot if I haven’t driven for a week or so. Same tires on the concrete are noticeably flat spotted after parking overnight on the concrete.

It also seems to be the trend in tires (or maybe I’m buying the wrong tires). Even the continental DWS-06 tires on my wife’s X3 flat spot over night.

Okay thanks guys - I appreciate the input. I think I’ll go with Michelins next time and get some rubber mats from the very beginning. Just the concrete floor + driving it every few weeks is a killer. I really need to get it out a lot more....

I installed the Turbo twist wheels and now the Sumitomo tires aren't that bad.
will have to add pictures later I went off for a ride and it poured buckets so didn't get a chance to take any photos.

They could care less about visual here in Colorado. Typically a car of this age would get run on the dyno rollers but they don't do that to our cars because they're afraid of damaging the diffs. So it's just an OBD2 scan for readiness monitors, check engine light/codes and a gas cap check. Because of Covid they're not running any car on the rollers, they're way too backlogged and don't have the time to do it.

Sumitomo tires suck. They're' black and round, that's about it.

What did you do to your 996TT today?

Kicked her to the curb and took out her much younger sister for yet another Saturday drive...

Just kidding actually.... As awesome as the new 991 Turbo S is, the 996 is absolutely just as much fun to throw around canyon twisties...

That's why you keep a child in the car when you're not around to make sure it is safe to get back into...
