Yes, it can be, but I figure if I am laying people off, it would be prudent to show a little compassion.

But they already know that you own the car, right?

Makes a lot of sense.

Yes, but it parked and not road insured at the moment. I cannot tell you Dock how much oil/gas/pipelines is suffering in Canada - it is a very bad situation.

Plus, I have been using my M5 as a daily, so I get my 'turbo' fix...

I understand the economic situation, but it seems to me that if your employees already know that you own a 996 Turbo I don't see why driving it makes their situation any worse.

Well, as it is parked in the back uninsured, they would know I paid a couple of grand to insure it for road use... and the optics of doing that in light of the economy, may make me look a little more prickish than normal...

Because hey, I don't really NEED to have an extra car insured, I just WANT to...

Well insight to your 996tt is that you have a 991tt and a m5 and severeal trucks. If you were worried about optics maybe drive the least expensive truck you own and park the rest... Or maybe drive the integra

We just have a different take on this.

The fact that you personally have the money to own, insure, and drive your cars just means you have the money to do that, maybe enough money to do that without working.

If you want to really help them you could sell all your toys and give them the money.

Office expenses, trucks, do not count as they are used for office things. I usually drive an 18 year old Suburban and only bring the BMW in if someone else needs the Burb.

As noble as that may be, I think I am doing enough by keeping a majority of staff employed.

Yes, I have worked hard, and yes I have stuff. With that, I also employ several PhDs, a couple of Masters and bunch of applied sciences and Bsc's, so the brain trust here is very high. When you work with highly intelligent people on a day to day basis, (and you are not as intelligent as they are...), the only way to manage them is by earning their respect. In turn, they honor that respect by working hard and realizing that Management is busting their collective asses to keep them employed, even through this particularly bizarre event. I appreciate that you may not see this the same way I do, yet, the last thing I want to do is rub it in folks faces so that they feel put out of joint, then go looking elsewhere for work - that would be really catastrophic.

The most important lesson one can learn from having a number of folks working for you is that the happier they are, the happier you will be - and if that means sacrifice over personal desires, I can live with that.

For awhile.

I grew up in my dad's business. I watched him build it and run it successfully for over 40 years. I know what it's like to manage a business through thick and thin times.

I don't consider insuring a car an act of rubbing their faces in anything. Going out and buying a brand new expensive vehicle might be a different story.

As I said, we simply have a different take on things.

I wear a gold Rolex to work everyday. I could care less what anyone thinks or that they may be offended by the fact I have a nice car or wear nice stuff. The sentiment seems nice, or maybe more paranoid.

Had the oil changed today with Mobil1 5w40. The cost was $295 with the tax. Seems reasonable. When i got home i checked the level and it was 3 bars. i added 3/4 of a quart and it is now full.

If you can DIY Walmart has 12qts in a box now for $50ish dollars. Plus filter, should be just over $100 said and done.
