I suspect the 996/997/991 will be lumped together the same way the SC/3.2/964 were lumped together 15 years ago. The 992s are turbocharged and the 993/994 or whatever will come after will not be anything like the 996/997/991 cars.

NO where in my post did I remotely insinuate that it was Jake's fault. I just pointed out that he had said people used to call and expect a cheap rebuild because at one time the 996 was a 'cheap' car

What has been the average selling price for a well sorted 996 with REAL miles. When I say real I mean around 70k miles and up or for a car that has been driven at very least 5k miles a year? Many of the examples fetching stupid money seem like garage queens being sold at a large profit while not seeing more than 1500 miles a year, on average. Heck, even that Mercedes has seen around 1400 miles a year over 39 years! In a world where many buyers still attribute the value and quality of the vehicle based on miles driven you tend to get pricing like this. Then soon after we see threads like a recent one here ... "I took my car out of storage after 7 months and it's leaking oil - what's wrong?"

As more garage queens fetch "stupid money", more garage queens will show up on BaT, PcarMarket, etc. The real question is what is "stupid money"? We that own them aren't so smitten with super low miles, understanding that these engines seem to perform best when used often, not just looked at often. The explosion of online auctions has opened the market to many, many new buyers and helps disseminate ever changing price data. Supply vs Demand always works! A few years ago it was a buyers market as supply greatly exceeded demand. Fast forward to Covid and unprecedented global stimulus and now demand greatly exceeds supply and its a sellers market. Most likely the "stupid money" was what we all paid for them, as in stupidly cheap, not the current prices. Just my $.02
