Oh that's what it is. I actually looked at it for a while and couldn't figure out where they put the engine. If I was rich I would buy that put it back to stock just to **** off the builder.

It would be nice if sellers started posting DME reports on modern Porsches as a standard... I would say a full independent inspection that includes images of the cylinders would be helpful to buyers and make BaT a better marketplace. When I sold my 996 on BaT I included DME overrev report, manometer results, rough running index, and camshaft deviations. Today, I would look to have the cylinders scoped since bore scoring is becoming a problem of concern for buyers.
I bought mine with no PPI. I drove it for a year and did a lot of maintenance to it, deferred maintenance probably. I think I posted here somewhere else but I just had a borescope done and lo and behold I got lucky because I do have scoring but it's just the coating on cylinder 6 at the bottom of the cylinder where it's probably going to happen even to the best of cars. My camshaft deviations are all below five or six and at 100,000 miles it's to be expected. That's the next job, new timing chains and top end. I don't think I'll do the cylinders because they seem fine and I change the oil every 6 months. But so far I've spent as much on restoring the car as I did buying it on bat. Anybody expecting to have a cheap 996 with value to anyone except themselves of course they are going to have to open their wallet. Or be a really good mechanic yourself. I keep a spreadsheet and a binder with all the receipts and the notes and whatnot photos. I've got the videos of the scope and the sump when it was dropped. I don't have any plans to sell. It's my car I love it. The next thing before I go on a road trip here in a few weeks is the cooling system. Everything's good, everything works fine, there's no seeping at the pump or anything but I just don't know when it was done so I'm going to do the reservoir and the pump and possibly radiators if I can swing it. Someone mentioned up in the thread that LN engineering frown on driving the cars if they have more than four degree camshaft deviation My indie who has loads of experience and expertise with m96 engines who knows LN engineering and has worked with them and Hoffman told me I don't really have to worry about it and it's perfectly safe to drive. if they go over the deviation limits, 6, then worry. Well Before that point I'll do that work as well so new timing chains guides etc etc I have new injectors for it at the same time that I've got to install. But the suspension is all done now everything is like new tires are in great shape The rims do need a re finishing, and there's still some body work that was never fixed correctly after the impact / accident It had in 2008. That straightening up of a few things, the frunk seam, front bumper and quarters respray I've already had Porsche body shop quote it's about $2,500 to get it back to new. I'm not too worried about that I like the patina it's the mechanicals that matter to me, the drive. But with healthy cylinders and all those work I've done so far I'm really close to having this restored with a full service history or record of maintenance that should have been done and never was sometimes you get lucky this car could easily have needed nicosil cylinders and to be sent to Hoffman and LN but I got lucky I guess. Still if you're thinking of buying a 996 for the seven or $800 it will cost you to drop the sump and do the scope get it done better safe than sorry and don't roll the dice like I did. If there's bore scoring just offer a lot less money for it. But again just cuz there's no bore scoring doesn't mean it won't need suspension cooling system oil cooler and water pump and injectors and top end rebuild cuz they have to be done. If I was a mechanic it would be cheaper but I have to pay the stupid guy tax. I figure with about another six or $7,000 it'll be like new mechanically. And it still looks like a stock 996 Carrera 2 which I really like. I've got no plans to lower it our roads are s*** hell I could make a safari and be happy with it for these roads. She's still an absolute blast to drive. A bit on the noisy side at highway speeds, but 911s are always a bit on the loud side.

You do realize that it's "off topic" to post a "Prices are dropping!!" comment in a "Prices Keep Drifting Up" thread, right?? May the mods have mercy on your soul.

Actually it looks like Carvana just finally figured out they're supposed to lowball on their offers. Their prices continue to be among the highest in the market. Want a 2019 pickup truck for 2023 MSRP prices? Be thankful you aren't paying ADM, sucker.

This one could be interesting. 1999 C2 6-speed with "IMS bearing failure" at no reserve.

would be good $10k roller. Put a 3.8 there and let it rip. This car is a perfect example why I prefer higher mileage frequently maintained examples. The extra value on the car May come from the rare paint.

$64,996 for a C2 with an Aerokit in speed yellow. At 46k miles, it isn't even low mileage.

i have almost $65k everything included in my 2003 650 hp twin turbo 996. That’s double the horsepower wide body and the only 24 hours of lemans race winning engine that porsche put in a street legal car. You can’t drive a color. Imagine if n a couple of years with a scored engine another $35k plus to fix this. I know the skittles Porsches are pretty but you can’t drive color.?
