that listing had some of the best photographs I've ever seen in a car listing. They hired some hollywood level cinematographer and it worked out for em.

Dry ice cleaned undercarriage too

They went all out and all in (no reserve)

Set a record, and I was not surprised

Good to see the turbo catch a strong bid. If the turbo doesn't go up, the m96 powered cars don't go up. Good to see the seller took it seriously.

Don't forget that this was an extremely low mileage car. This is something I personally don't understand since I don't get the purpose of buying cars to put them in a museum, but somehow it's worth a significant premium in the marketplace. Once you start driving this car, you will have to do a lot of preventative maintenance (replacing hoses etc) and value will plummet after 5k miles. I don't get it.

Doubt the buyer will drive it much. It's destined for storage and an occasional wipe down. Plenty of mid mileage 996 turbos for sale at compelling prices. It's about time the 996 turbo begins to command significant premium to the C4S.

This Turbo exceeded a lot of recent GT3 sales

(apples to apples miles GT3 still tops the Turbo tho; lower production number effect)

That's just it, he won't drive it. It will sit another ten or twenty years and then sell for an even exponentially greater premium

Certain cars are incredible investments, and there's an entire market segment forever hunting the next 959. 7K wasn't low production in 2000's (heck 6K 993 Turbos wasn't low in 90's either). But with one million Macans already on the road, 6 & 7K will eventually become the new 6 & 700

History repeats and we've already seen this same ugly-duckling 911 movie with 964. Once 996 turns 30 all bets are off IMHO

(freakin especially if ICE is curtailed or canceled; which is already on the wall)

There’s no doubt that the early build 996s are “special”.
People from PCA’s Nathan Merz to Jake Raby recognize the superior build quality and uniqueness of the early cars.

Please let us know if have more experience with 996s than those two if you disagree.

BUT I believe the amber headlights being associated with the Boxster will continue to hold down their value
There’s nothing wrong with the Boxster but it is currently the cheapest used Porsche on the market.
Even Porsche recognized the mistake back in 1999 and switched to clear headlights during the first model year.

I love the amber headlights I wish the Turbo had them

I don't even remember the Boxster

Ruf RGT paired the original fried-egg headlights with turbocharged Mezger. This one sold here for only $65K back in 2010. Probably a $450K+ car these days...

No one, and I mean no one, is gonna mistake this for a "Boxster"

No question, the early MK1 996s are special. Almost as special as the MK2 996s.

Welcome back Bdron. You must have been busy driving your Turbo. Don't blame you.

This is all so silly / ridiculous. My special is more special than your special...what are we 5yo? I swear this talk makes me double check to make sure I'm not on a Corvette forum All this "special" talk causes people not to drive their cars out of fear of diminishing it's values. Coincidently, not driving them is also something Nathan Merz to Jake Raby don't recommend.

Mistakes, unless fatal, are also a factor in what make cars extremely valuable in the future. A change in production in this case also means limited numbers.

Combine that with different built process, different materials, THE transition in 911 history from air to water, you have the perfect storm for SERIOUS COLLECTORS.

Most of us here just drive and enjoy them.
