(Boxster doesn’t have GT1 headlights I don’t care what you say or think)

I thus fell in love with the 996 platform (which surpasses 993 on many levels) and drove several MKI 996’s for over ten years until I realized the Turbo actually had the same motor as GT1 (but I had to give up the beloved MKI headlights; a decent trade IMO)

So I’ve driven 996 Turbos for many years now, and love them just as much, if not more, than my 996 Carrera’s

Now I’ve recently learned the MKI GT3 is actually a literal homologated street legal race car, has virtually the same GT1 motor (albeit NA) and has exactly the same (beloved) GT1 headlights

So now I’m on the hunt for a MKI GT3 in Europe to import in 2024 when DOT’s 25-yr rule kicks in

How can you justify a Turbo when the actual authentic homolgated MKI GT3 becomes available?? Of course I can’t

It’s been a two and a half decade progressive love affair through almost every Type 996 imaginable (Tip, Tip-S, & manuals)

Name any other car that can do this to a man
Good luck with your search. I can appreciate the reasons you want one. The GT3 is really special.

Default GT1

For those of you that are mystified by the GT1. In addition to the lights resembling the 986 and 996 MK1, the dash looks pretty similar as well. Go long the 996.

It will be interesting to see how much they will be sold for once they're here.
There's already a good few of them in Canada as well so you might find one closer without having to book a berth on a ship!

A lovely black on black 2001 GT2 CS just hammered for 242,090 USD. It was part of the Carrera collection.

600km driven ...I hope the new owner subscribes to the 'driven not hidden' ethos. But hey it's their money. They can put it in a blender, whatevs. But, before putting it in said blender, consider pm'ing me, will happily drive it, daily. 😎

Great video but he called 996 GT1 a 993 GT1, and even pointed out the "993 headlights"

Which I found utterly absurd

I guess the world is finally past the headlights. I mean this guy knows cars, and he honestly believes these are "993 headlights"????

Astonishing really

That was a $75K car only a few short years ago. We've come a long way baby

Seems that people are now falling in love with the 996 headlights. Can you blame them? Besides, both variations have won Lemans.

He got kinda caught up in his video performance while mistakenly pointing to the 996 headlights while referring to the earlier GT1 road car that had 993 lights.

Here is the correct car that he was supposed to be referring to...

The only 911 variant in Porsche history that has ever won LeMans was 996 GT1

Period

Agreed, 996 headlights are the absolute pinnacle of Porsche design

It's been shown on 996s as well. FSI engines are not a value add.

Yes, the GT1 won overall Lemans with similar headlights to the 986 and 996.

However, in 2005 a Porsche 996 GT3 RSR won its class at Lemans. Alex Job racing ran the car and Mike Rockenfeller, Marc Lieb and Leo Hindery were the drivers. It was the only 996 to ever win its class at Lemans and a huge accomplishment in a highly competative field. Not to mention it had the same beautiful headlights as you have on your 996 Turbo.

Good to see that two variants of 996 headlights grace the winner circle at Leman. Gotta be good for at least a $10k premium on 996 prices.
