If you look at their chart, Yellow typically adds a premium, so this "GT3-light" as people were dubbing it fetched more money. Id rather have a 40th AE over a kitted, fancy color.

while true! Color does carry a premium. I have a few vintage cars that I love but I got unpopular colors so I could at least have it

This and I'm biased because I own one I like yellow cars and people will pay for something they want whatever they want to but seeing Speed Yellow and Signal Yellow in person this weekend I'm very much in the Signal Yellow camp. Yeah, I know, I don't think it was available for a 996 at the time. With better cooling, X51 motor, which was developed along the side of the mezger in case that didn't work out and the LSD, the 40AE is much more of a GT3 light IMHO. Besides the Turbo, it was the second most powerful 996 after the GT3.

Yeah, all it takes is two bidders who really want the same car to make something go to the moon.

Overall, a nice car, but I'm not a Speed Yellow guy. Signal Yellow? Sure. I like a little orange/marigold.

Two bidders with appropriate pocketbooks. That price is hard to justify even for a long term collector IMO.

No affiliation whatsoever, but a manual transmission Targa with the X51 Power kit, PSE, and parking sensors is for sale. 46,000 miles and $48k asking.

This is about absolute dream spec for me, except for the black exterior. Nothing a wrap couldn't fix, I suppose.

Parking sensors are a big minus for me, but at least it's black so they're harder to see.

That has to be the GOAT of 996 Targas. Never seen one equipped with performance options like that. Very cool.

I agree. I really enjoy my Targa and have always thought one with the X51 would give a sort of "GT3 Targa" feel. I imagine this is one amazing car.

If you like Speed Yellow, and I do, this car is a rare and highly desirable package. I couldn't Justify the cost on my budget, but I could see it easily comparable to a 40AE, at 45k or so. Buyer got a beautiful and distinctive car that can be a long-term keeper, and the cost can be amortized over years of satisfaction. And I consider 46k to be relatively low mileage. At a typical 5k per year, that's 10-11 years till 100k.

This one could be interesting. Speed Yellow, huge plus. Over 100K miles though and 7 previous owners -- at least. The CarFax shows the car having been "sold" 5 times within the first owner's section.
