Prices Keep Drifting Up

there is a you tube guy Mathans POrsche channel, he used to do BMW V10 M5's and now hes on a porsche kick, he has a red 996 on his channel with intermix right now... he had hoped it was the AOS but hes got it stripped all the way down, i am not sure what he ended up finding wrong with it, but hes had the heads skimmed, he definitely took the engine out full strip down and sent out heads for repair and i think crack testing,

I think you are talking about Nathans Porsche Workshop. While he seems to know his way around the M96, his knowledge is lacking. He claims the 996.2 doesn't suffer from bore scoring because it has steel liners. Coincidentally, my 996.2 had bore scoring and now shouldn't suffer from it as it now has steel liners.

Audi makes an awesome car. I have owned 9 of them. Have the Q7 and A5 right now. Audi bumper too bumper warranties are excellent. As much as I am an Audi nut, I never checked into what the costs of the R10 would be to keep it running nor do I know where the landmines are hidden. Since you are an A5 owner under warranty, bet your service team could tell you. Cool car without a doubt.

Agreed, i think he wings it for the show and is still learning his Porsche Knowledge, but seems to be an experienced tech. I watch all these you tube channels and try to get out of it what i can glean as useful, its certainly not all factual, kind of like how every Car Journalist says every new car is awesome on a car they are testing, its the gravy train effect i think..
But he sounds very confident in what he says that I worry that many people will take these things as fact and this is how internet misconceptions get started and perpetuated and there is not enough people able or willing to correct it..So it grows into mountains..

So, those are not the high dollar "Forged Fuchs" ?? My favs !!....and he admitted they were fakes?
If he did at least he is honest and knowledgeable, most would have just led people to believe they were real or that they didn't know....
@bdronsick BTW I went back and read the comments on the BAT listing...
The wheels were never determined to be real or fake "Forged Fuchs"...you have to actually look for the Porsche Part number on the wheels...
FYI , there were actually narrow body "Real Forged Fuchs" offered for 2007-2009 model under option code 404 that did not require spacers....you should add that to your knowledge base...

He is *such* a hack. I tried to reach out to him when he had the yellow one as I could see mistakes he was making and he didn't respond...the guy that bought it found exactly what I tried to warn him about.

I told him that I suspected the heads were cracked (they were) and he should just buckle down and send them to Hoffman (he didn't), the water lines needed to be replaced from extended exposure to oil mix (he did; but with low quality, off brand parts), put in a new OEM expansion tank (he didn't) and replace the water pump and IMS bearing (he didn't). Subsequent YouTube owner got stuck with all the resulting issues.

(Spoiler alert): as I understand from the linked video series (part 3 to be exact) the fitted IMS bearing is the biggest and latest one that requires splitting the case and is the most durable anyway so current owner decided to leave it as is.
Is that latest IMS bearing a definitive indication of it being an AT/genuine Porsche replacement engine?
