Prices Keep Drifting Up
#7967
You are correct! I recently watched a 2000 996 C4 cab hang at under $15K for a week. It had 55K miles and some Carfax blemishes (accident). I was surprised having paid $24K for mine 1.5 years earlier. Then on the final day it shot up 67% to close at $25K. That price is FMV. The nature of BAT auctions is buyers hold back and then get stupid in the in the final hours/minutes. How do I know? Been there and done that.
The minimum pricing increment is $250 IIRC and any bid in the final moments resets the auction clock to 2 minutes to prevent "sniping".

There's really no point to bidding before the last day or even the last "two minutes" as the clock resets with 2 minutes after every bid anyway. All you get is a credit card hold for 5% of your bid and probably a reminder email. It's like showing up to a Barret Jackson auction 3 days early and yelling out a number into the void.

Edit for clarity: Raby takes over the BaT thread on that car to talk about Jake Raby. He's the only one who can save the 996!

Aaron, no grand conspiracy here. Not a member of the Kabul nor have I ever spoke with or met Jake Raby. Just found the video on BAT and thought it sounded great. Even checked it one more time and can confirm in fact it does sound great.

I've heard of several people getting ridiculous deals on cars because nobody else bid. Sometimes for unknown reasons, sometimes because of a mistake in category or item description making the car 'invisible' to people searching. I got my UTV at auction that way, my brother scored a motorcycle and several other things that way.

Sort of an art/artist thing, I guess.

I’m pleased that anyone did or does for the 996 as much jack raby has done I don’t see anything even close
I have never bought or met anything FSI related
but I do believe I will sooner or later IF he’s still doing it
that car sounds amazing hopefully he gets full value

Agreed. We need more innovators in the 996 world, not less. I appreciate any and all 996 solution providers that publicly stay visable and stand by their products. I for one would like to see the car go for a record sale price for two reasons.
First it's a well kept C4S which should reflect a premium because of it, as should all well maintained and serviced 996.
Second, it's important for the future values of all 996's to see a premium placed on a quality rebuild. It's inevitable that every engine known to man will eventually need a rebuild. It's about time we see a quality rebuild acknowledged and incrementally factored into prices.
The only nit picky minor issue i see with the car is the silly looking red wheel caps that detract from the black wheels and red calipers. But in the grand scheme of things, they can be replaced easy enough.
I am cheering this auction on big time.

Rented a 992 a couple weeks back. It was dull. Not much faster than my 996 (has an FSI 4.0) other than the PDK shifts. Exhaust sound didn't come close to my 2002. Was so happy to get back into my old car.

If a seller has no bids close to the end he might cancel his sale, it's happened to me. Once there's a bid he's generally more committed to riding it out. Also, if one isn't trying to get one particular car he might cast a wide net and just see what happens at the end instead of following listings. I've done this a few times and gotten good deals.
