If a seller has no bids close to the end he might cancel his sale, it's happened to me. Once there's a bid he's generally more committed to riding it out. Also, if one isn't trying to get one particular car he might cast a wide net and just see what happens at the end instead of following listings. I've done this a few times and gotten good deals.
Not on BringATrailer
Can I cancel my auction once it's live? We do not cancel auctions. We require listings to be exclusive to BaT during that time with all other ads taken down.
Only time I've ever seen a BaT auction cancelled is when something happens to the car between the listing and the end (accident, major engine issues). Once it's listed it's going to the end, they will not allow sellers to pull a car if they think it's not going to sell (that's what a reserve is for)

I remember that Integra Type R story where the owner wanted to take it for one last drive, but ended up wrecking it the day before the ending of the Bring A Trailer auction. Bidding was at $51,000.

I think it definitely added some premium for sure but you can't judge this car on the engine alone IMHO. This was a perfect example of an extremely well presented car from this seller, which is nothing new. Besides the engine, the entire car looks to have been dry ice blasted and looked as if it came out of the factory. All suspension components looked essentially brand new as a result. There wasn't a spec of dirt on the underbody. Interior was as clean as you'd find on a car with few thousand miles, save for the door sill scuffs. The car was very tastefully modified with the wheels and suspension and the owner even went as far as installing sound deadening material. Not sure I've seen anyone else do that before. From outside, the body seemed to be a 9.5 out of 10. I think the fact that all the documentation was included and the engine is essentially new and just past break in period was a big plus and why it brought in the money it did. What brought the money, in my opinion is the complete package.
Would like to see the market further differentiate between service, maintenance and mechanical history, reputable engine rebuilds and the silly color craze.
This is a good start.
My second WAG is that when LN officially takes over the operational side of FSI engine rebuilds with their new program, and if they develop an after initial rebuild with 2nd owner approach to some extent, the engine premium will most likely continue to rise further as they cement themselves as "THE" premier rebuild option. I do believe we are starting to see the next evolution of 996 pricing, which should be very positive accross the board.
There's the regular "BaT tax", the "911R tax" (his auctions tend to bring in quite a bit more than the same car from a private party) , and in addition to that the FSI 4.0 had to have added a good chunk of cash.
The car I previously owned is back up for sale, and as the buyer said he would the hollow turbo twists have been refinished. I tried to take good care of this vehicle, and did plenty of maintenance in my ownership at a good local indie and a Porsche dealer. Someone should scoop this up at this price. I'd grab it, but I'm out of garage space. Options sticker below, full build sheet attached. Dealer-installed aerokit (full, with rear spats) was most likely installed prior to first owner taking delivery, based on my research.
I'd love to see someone here grab this. Just under 46,000 miles now.
This one sold yesterday on bat. I was real tempted but I’m currently looking at a 09 Carrera S . Like me and others here I wish I had more garage space.
