Maybe we can get the bidder on the thread for a guest commentary on what he sees.

Other than being an all around incredible car, there is no scarcity value or unicorn uniqueness to a 2000 Coupe. None.
Check the link that Optionman provides or look at the production numbers on the summary PDF. The 996.1 coupe is a high production car.
Believe me, I am happy as he'll to see the bidding take the prices up...
But I am really scratching my head.

All this talk about production numbers makes me smile. I have a 2007 BMW Z4 M Coupe. They only ever made 1,815 of them for the North American market. Ever. That's what, a month of 911 output. If you want to get even more rare and esoteric, the less powerful but still very, very fine BMW Z4 3.0si coupe, equipped with a manual gearbox, exists in numbers of 828 in North America. (I had one of those too so I know of which I speak.) I bet Ferrari makes more cars than that in a month.
Anyway. BIG thanks to the folks who produced all those numbers. They confirm my decision to keep my '02 targa and continue to do the things I have planned for it, rather than ditch the whole idea and grab myself a 996 GT3. I think it will be money well spent.

I few like the dramatic price increase has coincided with the start of my search for a 996. At these BaT prices it makes more sense to go to a 997 or even 991. Nothing against the 996.

Just don't go BAT. Plenty of 996s out there for a good price and in great shape.

Sure, newer isn’t always better, but with technology and engineering, often it is. Twenty years ago, the advice on these forums was ‘buy the newest 911 you can afford,’ and I wish that adage came back a bit. The 997 and 991 are great cars. There’s no reason why someone should shy away from them if they are coming close on cost.

BAT is a much better place to sell than it is to buy. Like noted, plenty of other deals out there that are still reasonable. But, even in those markets, they have come up a bit, just not as drastic as some BAT auctions.

Heh. I get it. But I love driving the targa with all the openings opened. And I love the rear hatch. And I want more "GT" and less "track day" than the GT3 provides. I'd never want to downgrade a GT3. But putting RoW suspension, better seats, and moah powah in a targa doesn't seem sacrilegious.
